LAND OF THE LOST GENERIC INTERVIEW

ANNA FRIEL: HOLLY CANTRELL

You were a novice to the story - so what did you think?

ANNA FRIEL: I was excited to make the kind of movie I have never done before, learn how all the special effects work and watch great people at work as far as improvisation and great comedy goes. Just being around everyone taught me so much.

What is the charm of this story?

ANNA FRIEL: I think it's great to introduce this to a new generation who don't know what Land of the Lost is, and finding out what Sleestaks are and who Cha-Ka is and giving a dinosaur a personality. There is action and there is romance and it's also incredibly funny so it should appeal to lots of different people of different ages.

What was it like to have these funny people around you?

ANNA FRIEL: There were certain scenes where I thought I would really crack so I had to work on breathing or biting the inside of my cheek

They asked you to speak in your own natural accent was that a nice surprise?

ANNA FRIEL: I knew they wanted someone British but I thought it would be a more proper British accent, but they liked my own accent.

Your character has a crush on Will - you wouldn't normally think of him as a heartthrob on screen would you?

ANNA FRIEL: People say that to me and I don't understand why not. I think someone who makes laughter a huge part of their world and is naturally funny I find incredibly attractive and he has gorgeous blue twinkly eyes. He is a generous lovely caring man. Why shouldn't he be a heartthrob? I think he absolutely should be.

Describe your character?

ANNA FRIEL: I think she is quite naïve and has a childlike look at the world but underneath has a Spartan or a football hooligan attitude. If anyone crosses her she will be gung ho and ready to fight.

What did you think of Cha-Ka?

ANNA FRIEL: Cha-ka has a penchant for Holly's woman hood. I think Cha-Ka likes Holly the best. When Will and Danny are completely ignoring her, even though she has a degree from Cambridge and could probably guide them home, Cha-Ka is giving her all the attention.

What was the most difficult action scene?

ANNA FRIEL: Standing in the heat of the desert. It was 100 degrees and there was not very much shade. Also being in those harnesses for a week was pretty challenging. We learnt not to eat dinner before we went up. It was particularly uncomfortable if you are a girl, but didn't want to complain because it was like woo hoo - flying through the air!

How did you picture the dinosaur chasing you?

ANNA FRIEL: You have to use your imagination. I play with my little girl all the time and pretend there is a witch's castle and fairies coming out. It's all just pretend.

How old is your daughter? Is she too young for the movie?

ANNA FRIEL: She is four. She is like a proper little American girl now. She came and visited the set and she powder puffed the Sleestaks on occasion. I will let her watch it at home under my supervision. I will fast forward the scary bits.

Have you watched the original show?

ANNA FRIEL: Yes I watched all of them. Sid and Marty gave me the whole box set and my daughter loves it.

But this is a more adult take.

ANNA FRIEL: Absolutely. It had to move on a little bit for the 2009 version. I think it's still loyal to the fans of the original series, but now it has great effects and you add Will Ferrell and Danny McBride and you are in for a real treat.

Did you get any injuries?

ANNA FRIEL: I got a scar which I am really proud of. There was a scene when the Sleestaks pincers accidentally gashed me and apparently in the original show Holly was slashed by a Sleestak. So I feel it's like homage to the show. I'm very proud of it. Not many people can say they have been damaged by a Sleestak.

Space-time Vortexes Suck!

Based on the classic television series created by Sid and Marty Krofft, Land of the Lost starring Will Ferrell as has been scientist Dr. Rick Marshall will transport you to an alternate universe full of marauding dinosaurs and fantastic creatures from beyond our world.

Dr. Rick Marshall is not a scientist people take seriously. That is until he is sucked into a space-time vortex and spat back through time... way back. Sucked alongside him for the adventure are crack-smart research assistant Holly (Anna Friel) and redneck survivalist Will (Danny McBride).

Chased by T.Rex and stalked by painfully slow reptiles known as Sleestak, Marshall, Will and Holly must rely on their only ally, a primate called Chaka (Jorma Taccone) to navigate out of the hybrid dimension they have been dumped into.

With no weapons, few skills and questionable smarts, Dr. Rick Marshall and his crew have only one choice, escape from this routine expedition gone awry and become heroes. Get stuck and they’ll be permanent refugees in the Land of the Lost.
