HIP HOP PROJECTIONS 4 - ‘FROM THE ROOT TO THE TIP’

Hip Hop Projections 4 is here and ready to mix it up. Get set for a multi-layered event that oozes creative expression crossing language and cultural barriers in a seriously cool celebration of urban art and culture like never before seen.

A FREE event presented by Information and Cultural Exchange (ICE) as part of the Sydney Writers’ Festival, Hip Hop Projections 4 will take to the stage on Sunday 24th May, 2009. Set to transport the audience on an amazing global journey across the Pacific and through to the heart of the Middle East, Hip Hop Projections 4 is a multi-cultural, multi-lingual mix-up of lyrical and visual talent, bursting with creativity and energy.

Hosted by high profile Hip Hop artists, MC Trey and BrothaBlack, the audience will be treated to a unique night of hip hop, spoken word, dance, music and live visuals by some of Australia’s hottest artists from a wide range of rich cultural backgrounds.

"We are particularly excited about Hip Hop Projections 4 as the very essence of the event and the content that will be showcased addresses important issues of identity, place, culture and their role in society. With such an incredible mix of exceptionally talented artists, this event will incorporate many diverse, rich elements of urban culture and it is sure to attract a large and diverse audience,” said Lena Nahlous, Director of ICE and SWITCH.

The unique combination of spoken word performances in a range of languages, together with an eclectic mix of hip hop, electronic beats and fresh new urban sounds set against the backdrop of captivating visuals from the regions where the artists originate, Hip Hop Projections 4 will stimulate all the senses. Topped off by a performance from one of Sydney’s leading breakdancing crews, who just so happened to be feature on Network Ten’s ‘So You Think You Can Dance,’ and a breathtaking demonstration of urban movement phenomenon, Parkour by Australia’s leading Parkour crew, there will be something for everyone.

With the show-stopping artist line up including big names like The Last Kinection, SistaNative, Johnny M, SPICE, OMAR MUSA, VJ SPOOK, Nine Lives Parkour crew (from Fairfield) and JUSE B-Boy crew (from Fairfield), it is sure to be an amazing event!

This year, the Urban Music Project has been supported by the Australian Government’s Diverse Australia program through the Department of Immigration and Citizenship, and is supported by Riverside Theatres, Parramatta. ICE receives core support from the Australia Council for the Arts, Arts NSW and the NSW Film and Television Office. Switch Multimedia and Digital Arts Access Centre is a partnership with Parramatta City Council.
