Film it these school holidays for Screen It

The school holidays are upon us. Why not do something fun and rewarding during the break and enter Screen It, the Australian Centre for the Moving Image’s annual national film making competition for school aged students. Registrations are now open online and ACMI encourages you to get cracking!
Entry is open to all school-aged students nation-wide and you can enter your work into one of three categories -
live action film, computer game or animation, in either the primary or secondary school sections of the
competition.
This year’s theme is ‘Cybersmart: constructing online/personal identity’. When creating your entry, think about
how you use the internet. It is a good idea to explore a topic, such as what it means to be a ‘cyber citizen’, the
types of relationships that occur online, the way we experience community online, as well as important issues
such as online conflict, online language and information sharing and copying.
As well as investigating the topic, you will learn some great techniques to make films, games and animations -
and have a lot of fun along the way!
Create your entry with your school friends or enter on your own.
Best of all, you’ll go into the running to win some great prizes. Winners each receive a trophy and a DVD prize pack
courtesy of Madman Entertainment. The primary and secondary school with the most finalist entries each win a
prize and a perpetual trophy will be awarded to the school with the most number of finalist entries overall.
Winners are awarded at an awards ceremony in December. In addition, winners’ work will be added to the library of
the new ACMI Resource Centre opening mid-2009, where they can be seen by all ACMI visitors.
Screen It was designed by ACMI to encourage imagination and inventiveness in Australia’s primary and secondary
school-aged students and fosters a new generation of young film makers. The competition draws entries from
every corner of the country and there is nothing else like it for Australia’s primary and secondary students.
Are you the next Steven Spielberg or Woody Allen? You have until Wednesday 9 September to register and create
your film. Get cracking!
