$13 Million Investment For Sandringham College

Premier announces $13 million election commitment to redevelop Sandringham College Investment supports proposed sporting and science academies at Sandringham College's Beaumaris campus Napthine Government building better education for all Victorian students.

The Premier Denis Napthine has announced a $13 million commitment to redevelop facilities at Sandringham College and build new sporting and science academies at the Beaumaris campus if the Victorian Coalition Government is re-elected.

The announcement took place during a visit to the school with MCC president Mr Paul Sheahan, Minister for Education Martin Dixon and Member for Sandringham Murray Thompson.

'The Napthine Government is building better schools for all Victorian students and I'm delighted to announce a $13 million redevelopment of Sandringham College if the Victorian Coalition Government is re-elected," Dr Napthine said.

'This important $13 million investment will include a $6 million upgrade of the College which may be delivered across all three campuses."

The College is establishing science and sports academies at its Beaumaris campus, and $7 million has been earmarked for the campus' redevelopment that includes a multi-million dollar co-investment by the MCC Foundation.

Mr Paul Sheahan said the school facilities would sit alongside world-class cricket and other sporting facilities, which will be available to the school community, MCC sporting teams and local sporting clubs.

'The Foundation has worked previously with the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development to make excellent sporting facilities available at Melbourne High School and we're pleased to continue to invest in state-of-the-art sporting facilities for community participation," Mr Sheahan said.

'A prime purpose of the MCC participating in the project is to enable some of our women's and men's cricket teams to train and play at the Beaumaris campus. We look forward to working with all parties on this exciting project."

'This new money builds on the $6 million the Napthine Government has already invested at Sandringham College in the 2013-14 Budget, and is a significant investment in education for families in the area," Mr Dixon said.

Mr Murray Thompson welcomed this land-mark reinvestment in Sandringham College and partnership with the MCC which will realise the development of world class facilities for the school.

'This decision by the Coalition Government will also provide an important educational legacy for future generations of students," Mr Thompson said.

'I pay tribute to Ron Wakefield, the President of the School Council, the School Principal, Allen McAuliffe and, successive school councils, which have sought to develop contemporary educational facilities.

'As the local Member this is a project which I have fought to advance for some years now and I'm proud the Coalition Government is putting a further $13 million on the table for Sandringham College to improve the student learning environment."

The Napthine Government is building a better education system, with a record $9.2 billion for school education in 2014-15, $1 billion more than Labor's last budget in 2010.
