A Room of One's Own by Virginia Woolf

A Room of One's Own by Virginia Woolf

Following a sold-out premiere season, Peta Hanrahans's stage adaptation of Virginia Woolf's classic essay returns. Breathing new life into the history of women and literature, A Room of One's Own by Virginia Woolf features four performers as aspects of Woolf's mind in conversation with herself, and the audience.

Based on a series of lectures that gently interrogates the history of women and fiction, this much-lauded production carries striking relevance to current conversations about gender disparity. Today, with campaigns such as Me Too, Time's Up and NOW Australia, A Room of One's Own by Virginia Woolf shines a light on our history with astounding pertinence to contemporary society.

Sentient Theatre is a new collective of contemporary theatre practitioners with the goal of bringing important humanitarian narratives to the stage. Their inaugural piece, A Room of One's Own by Virginia Woolf, premiered at La Mama Courthouse in 2016 to overwhelmingly positive responses, igniting a desire to continue sharing this important story.

Not to be missed, this limited return season runs at Melbourne's iconic fortyfivedownstairs in the CBD for 11 shows only from the 17th to the 28th of July, 2019.
