ACMI today announces a brand new monthly program - Family Sundays - a day of free family friendly events and interactive activities unique to ACMI on the first Sunday of every month.
Starting Sunday 2 April, Family Sundays each month will be a day for families to come together and interact with screen culture in all its forms: from creating YouTube videos to wielding a lightsabre and belting out tunes at Frozen karaoke to painting a masterpiece in virtual reality with Google's Tilt Brush. There is something for everyone, and it's all free!
Alongside ACMI's interactive exhibitions including Screen Worlds, it's Kids' Flicks cinema program and family friendly fare at the ACMI Cafe, ACMI has weekends with the family covered.
Each month, Family Sundays will adopt a theme with April dedicated to one of the internet's biggest channels – YouTube. Visitors to ACMI will discover how everyday people are making new types of programs for all types of viewing audiences. ACMI's expert team will be on hand to help families make their very own videos inspired by special guests, YouTube megastars Grace Mulgrew (Grace's World) and Debbie Doo (Debbie Doo's Kids TV) who will drop in on the day to reveal the tips and tricks for creating entertaining online content.
In ACMI's world-class green screen studio, visitors can kick off Family Sundays with a celebration of Aussie Rules. All ages can partake in their own Mark of The Year video or blooper reel, inspired by the AFL Kids YouTube Channel created by ACMI X co-workers Valleyarm Digital. Stars of the AFL Womens' League will drop in throughout the day to cameo in family creations.
Family Sundays promises to be a reliable and enjoyable experience for families on the first Sunday of every month. The monthly theme allows families to return again and again assured of an entirely different experience.
