Interview with Alex Hosking

Question: How would you describe your music?

Alex Hosking: I love to make music that makes people happy. I'm not exclusive to "happy songs" but ultimately, I love creating "fun" and making people dance. That's how I would describe it.

Question: Can you tell us about Fake Friends?

Alex Hosking: Fake Friends was written a while ago on a songwriting camp. If you can believe it, it was originally written as a slow tempo hip-hop/ pop track! It was written and forgotten about and later the producer Mark Alston who I wrote it with asked if he could send it to PS1 and now it's a dance tune!!

Question: How has COVID-19 influenced your music?

Alex Hosking: I travel a lot. Have been for the past 4 years, COVID slowed me down physically which I believe made me more conscious about how I spend my time, what I focus on and what elements I put into my music. That has been one of the positives of COVID for me.

Question: Can we expect an upcoming tour once restrictions are lifted?

Alex Hosking: HELL YES. I can't WAIT to perform live!

Question: Which is your favourite song to perform live and why?

Alex Hosking: It will be Fake Friends once I'm allowed to get out and start performing. Because in my bedroom, it ain't cutting it.

Question: What can you tell us about working with PS1?

Alex Hosking: He is such an awesome dude! I've only been in a studio with him once, but I was flown out to Los Angeles to work on a movie score during Grammys week (which was my last flight before COVID hit) and PS1 called me saying he needed to recut some vocals. The next day he had flown from NYC to LA with the exact same mic I had used to record the vocals with previously... all to recut 1 word. But it was cool we ended up hanging out and went to the famous Roscoes Chicken and Waffle House which was next door to the studio, where we got our dinner for free from the table next to us because we sung for them... literally sung for our meal!

Question: Which music/artists are you currently listening to?

Alex Hosking: Joel Corry, MNEK, Raye, Mabel, Anne Marie, Dua Lipa, Thandi Phoenix, Sleepwalkrs, Famba, Nicole Millar

Question: What or who was your inspiration to go into the music industry?
