Lay Low describes the multifaceted emotions that come with stepping away from a situation for the sake of your own mental health. The song offers strong and emotive vocals, relatable lyrics, and catchy melodic deliverances resulting in a cathartic alt-pop track.
Question: What inspired the track, Lay Low?
Amy Guess: I had a couple tough relationship blows and along with normal life stresses I was feeling sad and down and overwhelmed. Writing this was giving myself a reminder and permission that it was okay and human to be feeling all those things and that it was okay to back away from it all and take the time necessary to just feel better. Not to be productive or accomplish this or that, but just feel better. Life will still be there when you get back.
Question: What motivates you most when writing music?
Amy Guess: Whatever I'm experiencing in life currently is a big motivator. Love, trials, happiness, resilience, strength, sadness, frustration, and honesty. Working through feelings to a melody is always good medicine.
Question: When have you stepped away for the sake of your own mental health?
Amy Guess: I've done this when relationships have become strained and toxic, caught in a loop of bad energy, I've learned to recognise what is unhealthy and allow distance when it is. It's about knowing what is right for your soul and gravitating towards that and sending off that which isn't with love.
Question: What message do you hope the song spreads to audiences?
Amy Guess: I hope it reminds people to listen to themselves, listen to your body and what it's telling you it needs. If you feel like you need to take a break from someone or something it's important to take that break.
