Anya Lyudmilina Fight Pesky Winter Symptoms Interview

With the dreaded cold and flu season upon us, Comvita Australia has launched a unique new product to help customers support their immune system and fight pesky winter symptoms. Children are most prone to colds, suffering between 5-10 a year. Adults can expect to suffer 2-4 colds annually.

Olive Leaf Immune Defence (150 vege capsules) is the only product in Australia to combine Vitamin C and Oleuropein - two powerful antioxidants shown to support the immune system and reduce the symptoms of cold and flu. Each daily dose (2 capsules) is formulated to help support the immune system, reduce the duration and severity of common cold symptoms (including coughs and sore throats), reduce fatigue and protect from free-radical damage and oxidative stress.

The natural immune support provided by Olive Leaf Immune Defence is perfect for busy customers who need to function at their peak during cold and flu season. It is indicated for use in children 5 years or older.

Olive leaf extract has a long history of use in maintaining immune health and overall wellbeing. It has been shown to ease mild fevers and improve energy levels. Research also shows Vitamin C significantly reduces the severity of the common cold.

Comvita has also made their Fresh-Picked™ Olive Leaf Extract High Strength capsules available in a larger value pack size (120 capsules). Traditionally used in Western herbal medicine to support the immune system, olive leaf extract can also help maintain normal blood pressure and cholesterol levels in healthy individuals. This high strength formulation provides the necessary levels of polyphenols (66mg Oleuropein) beneficial for maintaining a healthy cardiovascular system and overall wellbeing.

Simon Pothecary, General Manager of Comvita Australia, said the expansion of the range is testament to the growing demand from customers for natural solutions to meet their health needs.

'Cold and flu season is dreaded by many. We are excited to be able to offer our Olive Leaf Immune Defence and High Strength options to help customers find relief, fight pesky symptoms and help them operate at peak performance this winter," said Mr Pothecary.

Customers can feel confident that the Fresh-Picked™ Olive Leaf Extract used in Comvita products is 100% grown in Australia.

Interview with Anya Lyudmilina, Comvita Australia Spokesperson

Question: What is the difference between cold and flu?

Anya Lyudmilina: When you start experiencing sore throat, runny nose and a headache, it is often difficult to know if it is a common cold or flu because the symptoms can often overlap.

The main difference is that the common cold generally has milder symptoms than influenza (flu). Both have similar symptoms such as coughs, sore throat, sneezing, fever and tiredness. The best way to know for sure what you are dealing with and how to get back on your feet is to see your health care professional. You can also take preventative steps to help boost your immunity all year round.

Question: How do you strength your immune system in winter?

Anya Lyudmilina: The best way to strengthen your immune system is to look after your wellbeing year-round. Taking a holistic approach such as eating well, getting enough sleep and exercising or moving regularly are good places to start. In winter, our immune system is under a lot of duress so it is also vital to get your antioxidants levels up. Antioxidants are important as they act as free radical scavengers, helping to reduce free radical activity that can weaken immune system and cause inflammation. One abundant antioxidant source is a naturally occurring plant component, called Oleuropein, found in Fresh-Picked Olive Leaf. Olive Leaf Extract has been traditionally used to help support the immune system and relieve the symptoms of colds, flu, sore throats and upper respiratory tract infections. Another antioxidant well-known for its immune supporting capacity is Vitamin C. When those two ingredients are blended, you get an antioxidant powerhouse! Comvita has just launched a new product that combines both Oleuropein and Vitamin C-

Olive Leaf Immune Defence.

Question: If a colleague within our workplace is sick, how can we prevent also coming down with their cold?

Anya Lyudmilina: Cold and flu season is always a challenge at any work place as people are in close proximity day after day. As a preventative measure, most of my colleagues take 15mLs daily of Comvita Fresh-Picked Olive Leaf Extract liquid or 2 capsules of Olive Leaf Immune Defence to harness the cold fighting power of Vitamin C and Oleuropein. Don't be afraid to keep the hand sanitiser handy as well!

Question: How can we reduce the symptoms of cold and flu?

Anya Lyudmilina: To reduce the symptoms of cold and flu, it is generally recommended to rest as much as you can. To give your body a chance to recover as soon as possible, you should also eat nourishing foods, (never underestimate the power of hearty chicken broth!), get immune boosting antioxidants from foods, Olive Leaf Extract and hot drinks (like loose leaf green tea) with the added goodness of ginger and genuine Manuka honey.

Question: And, how can we reduce the symptoms in children?

Anya Lyudmilina: Kids are more susceptible to the symptoms of cold and flu (experiencing on average 5-10 colds per year while adults experience 2-4) and to reduce these you can call on the advice from your local paediatrician. You can ensure they are getting enough rest, are well hydrated and keep germs at bay by encouraging everyone in the family maintains good hand-washing hygiene. You can also add 1 teaspoon (twice daily) of Comvita Children's Olive Leaf Extract – Mixed Berry to your child's favourite drink like orange juice or a smoothie. Comvita Children's Olive Leaf Extract is not to be used by children under 2 years of age without medical advice and Olive Leaf Immune Defence is not recommended for children under 5 years of age. If symptoms persist, see your health care professional.

Question: Which of the Comvita Australia products is your favourite?

Anya Lyudmilina: Olive Leaf Immune Defence has quickly become one of my favourites. It is a unique product as it is the only product combining Olive Leaf Extract and Vitamin C. Olive Leaf Extract and Vitamin C are two of nature's most powerful antioxidants. It is easy to take and is perfect for those people who have busy schedules and don't have time to deal with cough and cold symptoms.

Question: Can you talk us through the advantages of the Olive Leaf Immune Defence capsules?

Anya Lyudmilina: The product is called Olive Leaf Immune Defence for a very good reason. It can help relieve the symptoms and duration of the common cold, sore throats, coughs, mild fevers as well as reducing tiredness and fatigue. It guarantees 66mg of Oleuropein and 500mg of Vitamin C per daily dose, which is only 2 capsules per day! It also provides you with a 2 month supply per bottle if taken at the standard dose.

Question: What foods should we consume alongside the Olive Leaf Immune Defence capsules?

Anya Lyudmilina: There are no restrictions to the foods you can consumer along with Olive Leaf Immune Defence capsules. I always recommend that people add Fresh-Picked Olive Leaf to a healthy lifestyle and diet so they can make sure they are functioning at their peak, all year round!
