An ?Art for Life? Bushfire Appeal, supported by the City of Melbourne, will see artists from across Australia unite to build an impressive body of art work to raise funds for those affected by the recent Victorian bushfires.
To date, over 100 artists including commercial and public galleries have donated artwork which will be displayed and auctioned at the public charity event.
Lord Mayor Robert Doyle said this is a terrific example of how the creative arts community can come together to assist those in need.
?Melbourne is a city recognised for its arts community and culture, so it?s wonderful to see the arts community uniting to draw on their talent to help those devastated by the recent bushfires,? the Lord Mayor said.
Contributing artists to date include Lisa Roet, Heather Schimmer, Angela Brennan, Debra Rhee, Jamie Daddo, Thomas DeKessler, Elisabeth Sand and Mary Newsome.
In addition to the work donated by artists, a range of celebrities and high profile figures will be approached to create unique pieces of artwork for the ?Art for Life? Bushfire Appeal auction.
Television talent John Deeks will host the charity event and the donated artwork is expected to raise in excess of $50,000 for the bushfire appeal.
Potential bidders for artwork and established or emerging artists wishing to donate artwork can visit www.artlifeappeal.org to view the auction items or register their interest in donating artwork.
