ASTON Next Level Interview

ASTON Next Level Interview

Introducing….ASTON

Hailing from the Central Coast in Sydney, this Australian powerhouse vocal artist and songwriter has already tasted international success in 2019.

Whilst relatively unknown as a recording artist, ASTON has penned and featured on a major film soundtrack, had her songs placed on an international commercial for BMW, featured on a Netflix television series, 'Insatiable' and has aligned with the global NBA video game franchise.

Under her song writing alias, A$ton Wyld, her single 'Next Level' was featured on the highly successful Fast and Furious Present: Hobbs and Shaw movie and soundtrack and has independently racked up over 5 million streams on Spotify. The same track was later picked up and placed on a television commercial for BMW in China.

Additionally, her single titled 'Original' was featured on the release of the NBA 2K20 video game earlier this year and this is just the beginning for the talented songwriter.

In 2020 ASTON will step out from behind the song writing desk and unleash new music under her own name. Her creativity as a writer touches on topics of girl power, sexuality and self-discovery in an edgy fusion of Pop, Hip-Hop and Reggae which will be showcased on her debut releases.

"I've always been a performer and had the overall goal of becoming a recording artist. Timing has played a major part in the roll-out of my career, I wanted to garner more life experiences and embrace the lessons that I needed to learn. It was really important to me to work on my sound and vocal ability before stepping out. Song writing has given me an incredible foundation and I think now, I'm ready!" Says, ASTON.

ASTON has spent the past 12 months working on her solo project including multiple stints in LA whilst also taking part in the APRA AMCOS highly regarded song writing camp, 50 Songs in 5 days where she co-wrote with Cosmos Midnight who later released their collaboration titled 'Can You Dig It'.

ASTON walks the line of 'Rock Star meets Pop Princess'. She's unapologetic, persistent and won't be afraid to put her middle finger up to any barrier she'll face along her way.

Interview with ASTON

Question: Can you tell us about how you came to feature on the Hobbs and Shaw soundtrack?

ASTON: Long story short, I worked with some incredible producers who were very interested in creating music for film and television. We worked over the year and created a few songs, including Next Level. Fast forward six months and an email popped up from a representative at the Fast and Furious asking to use the song in the movie, and the rest is history.

Question: How does it feel to hear your song on a television commercial for BMW in China and on the Netflix television series Insatiable?

ASTON: Sometimes It feels like I didn't write it, and I'm listening as the viewer. I guess that's from hearing it so much. The craziest thing is you never fully understand the importance of music in films and advertising until you start creating it. It's truly a powerful form of art.

Question: Do you prefer performing live or recording?

ASTON: Both! For entirely different reasons, and that's what makes the process exciting. I love recording because it's so personal and therapeutic. Then, my first love of performing live is the closest I ever feel to people. I communicate the best when I'm on stage. It's so instinctual, and there are no walls up. I feel myself completely.

Question: Which is your favourite song to perform live and why?

ASTON: This song I wrote called Middle Finger. You can imagine what it's about. It's empowering and unapologetic, bound to make your day better!

Question: If you could have anyone, in the world, attend a show, who would it be?

ASTON: My high school friends live in different places, but flying them all out to come to the show would be incredible. They always remind me of where I came from and definitely know me the best.

Question: What motivates you most when writing music?

ASTON: People, some to prove wrong and some to prove right. Apart from that, the most motivating thing is hearing how my music can play even the smallest role in someone's life. That's my ultimate goal; changing people's lives through music.

Question: Which music/artists are you currently listening to?
ASTON: Right now I'm listening to the late 90s/early 00s. Think Black Eyes Peas, Fergie, Gwen Stefani, Nelly Furtado who created real anthemic bangers. Let's not forget Queen Rihanna as well, she's always on repeat.

Question: What or who was your inspiration to go into the music industry?

ASTON: It was all I wanted to do. All I knew was to entertain and create from a very young age, so it was a no brainer and no one ever questioned it.

Question: If you could collaborate with another artist, who would it be?

ASTON: There's so many and collaborating is so important. I would love to create something with an incredible artist called Banks. Together we would create something badass. Also The Teskey Brothers, there's a special place in my heart for blues and soul music, and If I could do a duet with their song Rain, it would be so magical.

Question: What is the biggest challenge you have faced along the way to your musical success?

ASTON: I think the fact that nothing ever felt like it was given on a platter. It's always been about working hard to get what I wanted, and I actually love that. Struggle created resilience.

Question: What's a typical day like?

ASTON: There is no typical day. That's the fun part. It's ever-changing and evolving depending on whether I'm in writing mode or focusing on other things like marketing or live performances.

Question: Can you share your socials?

ASTON: @this_aston
