Norwegian pop force AURORA started 2020 off on the Oscars stage performing the Frozen 2 hit "Into the Unknown" to millions of viewers. Since then, she has been cocooned in self-isolation. Now, AURORA is breaking out of the wilding days of childhood and youth, and blossoming into a woman, a queen, her own warrior. A warrior that is awakened by love. To celebrate this awakening, she has released her first song of 2020 today, a stunningly poetic single titled "Exist For Love".
In "Exist for Love" Aurora's dreamy vocals are carried by the enchanting arrangements of award winning composer Isobel Waller-Bridge (Fleabag, Emma, Vita & Virginia), mimicking the divine journey of love. The two collaborated while both isolated, each of them pouring a piece of their heart into the song. As AURORA describes, "Isobel understood and respected the spirit of the song. I'm very grateful to have her as another mother to the project." AURORA produced the single with Magnus Skylstad.
The emotional ballad is a departure from her high-energy pop releases of 2019, which included top charting singles "Animal" and "The Seed", which have gained more than 12 million combined views on YouTube. However, in typical AURORA fashion, it is accompanied by an utterly stunning music video, showing the singer lit up from within with the golden light of love.
A sweet love song, "Exist For Love" showcases AURORA's incredible lyricism, conveying perfectly the feeling of falling in love for the first time.
"I thought I didn't have a love song within me," said AURORA. "Until one day a few years ago, when I realized what a heavenly thing love is. Yes, it makes us human, but it also makes us divine. Whatever you're using that love for. Or who. The touch of it will leave a print in us. It may be newborn love, it might be grief. But still we dare to love. Again and again. And when we get to experience that love, I think we understand why we exist. We exist for love."
Born near the city of Bergen, AURORA began writing music and lyrics at a young age, releasing her debut single "Awakening" in 2013, following up with "Under Stars", which led her to be signed by American label Glassnote. AURORA came to further prominence in 2015 with the release of her debut album 'All My Demons Greeting Me as a Friend', which charted at number one in Norway and across Western Europe.
She released 'Infections of a Different Kind (Step I)' in 2018, as the first part of the two album release, and followed this up with 'A Different Kind of Human (Step II)' in May 2019, to widespread critical acclaim. AURORA's 2019 single "Animal" was added to full rotation on triple j, and performances at Groovin' The Moo 2019 solidified her strong presence in Australian music scene. AURORA also featured on the soundtrack to the award winning Disney film Frozen II, which saw her perform the movie's hit "Into The Unknown" on stage, alongside star Idina Menzel, as part of the 92nd Academy Awards.
