Introducing… Australia Zoo's New Meerkat Mob!

Australia Zoo's new meerkat section is officially open with the mob perched and ready to meet guests.

10 cheeky female meerkats and their carefully designed new home are long-awaited additions to Australia Zoo's African section, situated at the eastern end of the savannah where our large giraffe herd, zebras and rhinos roam together.

The new exhibit itself is a carefully constructed meerkat heaven, replicating the sandy desert plains where they live in the wild. Meerkats are extremely busy and inquisitive animals. They're ultra-alert, love to dig and are constantly re-arranging the objects in their home, much to their keeper's interest and surprise each day.
