Interview with Benny Sinclair
Question: How would you describe your music?
Benny Sinclair: Ambient, spiritual, soulful, words of wisdom, life lessons and worldwide connective.
Question: What inspired your new single, Fly Away?
Benny Sinclair: The song was written whilst I was going through a rough patch in my personal life. On the day it was written and recorded I was given an opportunity to train at a gym in California in preparation for a professional boxing fight I had scheduled and also meet with a female world champion boxer I had become close friends with. I purchased a plane ticket and arrived in the studio on the same day to meet with Mr. Leigh who produced the track and Rebecca Janz who is the female vocalists. The song captured the vibe more than words can explain.
Question: What can we expect from Don't Take It Personal?
Benny Sinclair: It's an upbeat album, my lyrics are from the heart I speak the truth and my tracks all relate to my life experiences and my beliefs touching on the Four Agreements. The album is set to inspire and influence my audience in a positive way and leave my mark on the local music scene and beyond. But my favourite part is that my music inspires some great dance moves from my fans particularly the ladies who aren't as afraid to 'tear it up' on the dance dloor unlike most of the fellas.
Question: If you could have anyone, in the world, attend a show, who would it be?
Benny Sinclair: I'm a spiritual man so I'd like to say firstly I believe the big Guy upstairs is with me all the way. But from a musical point of view right now, would love to perform to Kendrik Lamar, I think he had left his legacy on the scene, and if he rocked up to my shows I'd definitely 'hit him up' for a collaboration.
Question: Do you prefer performing live or recording?
Benny Sinclair: I honestly love both, to me it's all about the vibe on the day, sometimes I feel it more in the studio and sometimes I feel it more on stage, that's the greatest part of what I do!
Question: What motivates you most when writing music?
Benny Sinclair: My life inspires my music, I love finding a beat that gets my heart pumping then flowing my lyrics into the song.
Question:Question: Which music/artists are you currently listening to?
Benny Sinclair: I've been busy making playlists on Spotify I've made about twelve so far each containing 50-100 songs that have inspired me, so many inspiring artists from old skool to new skool.
Question: What or who was your inspiration to go into the music industry?
Benny Sinclair: I love it it's who I am, I can't imagine not being involved in music.
Question: If you could collaborate with another artist, who would it be?
Benny Sinclair: I've mentioned Kendrik Lamar but how can I not mention Beyonce?
Question: What's a typical day like, for you?
Benny Sinclair: I train, keep fit and healthy every day. I work as a boxing trainer so my days are pretty physical. On my downtime I hang out with family and friends, listen to music and create ideas for new songs, if I'm not writing them down to beats. I'm creating ideas in mind for my next musical direction, it's what I'm most passionate about, can't imagine living any other way.
