Berlei Spring Summer Sports Range

Berlei Spring Summer Sports Range

Did you know that a staggering 40% of Australian women don't wear a sports bra while exercising? And 76% of women who are wearing sport bras are wearing the same one regardless of what sport they're playing? And that even a B-cup can bounce up to 8cm without the right support?* "Ouch" right?!

Berlei has launched its new Spring Summer Sports range that aim to take care of and support all boobs, for all activities.

We know boobs move differently during sport, so our Sports Bras offer single breast encapsulation to treat each breast differently. They don't compress like crop tops do, they encapsulate, giving you more freedom, comfort and confidence to move. And Berlei Sports bras are designed with custom-sizing in mind, so rather than choosing a S, M or L, you can choose your cup and band size so it's specific to you.

The new collection has been perfectly engineered to combine function, fashion, comfort and support so you can focus on your moves, not how your boobs are moving. Berlei Sports bras are the only sports bra brand tested, approved and endorsed by the Australian Institute of Sport, and has been the sporting equipment of choice of Serena Williams since her mum discovered them in a store when she was here playing in the Australian Open. So if you're interested in giving our bras a run (pardon the pun!) you're in legendary company.

Review: Berlei are listeing to women!  They know we vary in size and shape and have increase the range of supportive sporting bras. The new Spring Summer Sports Range of bras means you can have confidence while playing the sport you love, no matter what pace. We love that Berlie now allow sports minded women to customise for their body, as this opens up the market to larger bust sizes who need to be well supported while being active. Thanks Berlei great job!

Interview with Adele Kershaw, Berlei Fit & Innovation

Question: Were you shocked that 40% of Australian women don't wear a sports bra when exercising?

Adele Kershaw: There are a large number of women who don't realise the impact of movement on their breasts and think they don't need to wear a sports bra. This could be due to the fact that they are a smaller cup size or they feel they only participate in moderate exercise. Also, many women have experienced pain and irritation from ill-fitting and poorly constructed sports garments that has deterred them from wearing a support garment during exercise. An unsupported B cup can bounce up to 8cm when active, so it is crucial that no matter what sports you're doing, you should always wear a sports bra.

Question: What is the importance of wearing a good sports bra when exercising?

Adele Kershaw: The right bra can give you a confidence boost, knowing you're being properly supported gives you the self-assurance to do your thing…whether that means playing sport, working out or going about your daily activities. Consider the type of activity you will be using the bra for, and therefore what support factor you will need. Consider your everyday bra preferences.

Your underband should feel firm but not uncomfortably so. You should fit onto the loosest hook and eye in order for you to tighten up as the garment wears. A bra that has underwire should sit flat against the body and they should not cause any irritation. If you can see into the cup or feel your breast move within in, it is likely you need to size down a cup.

Alternatively, pressing in the neckline or bulging at the underarm are indicators that you should try a cup size up.

Below are some latest innovations that women should look out for when buying a sports bra:
Similarly, in a sports garment, a contour cup will provide more shaping and modesty.

An underwire will help to separate the breasts and anchor the bra to the body, whilst a wirefree garment offers a more relaxed comfort and freedom to move.
Wider straps which will help to distribute the weight of a heavy bust and relieve any pressure you feel through the shoulder.
Material should have a strong stretch and feel when you stretch it in your hand you should see it return.
Wicking finishes, perforation and moisture management fabrics will help to keep you cool and dry during your workout.

Question: What's the difference between a Berlei sports bra and a basic sports crop top?

Adele Kershaw: We have finessed the fine art of ensuring our bras provide the correct support for whichever sport women choose to undertake, whilst still looking stylish. Designing bras with a compression and encapsulation support system, which a basic sports crop doesn't offer, means the technology separates the breasts and supports each one individually within its own cup.

Question: What effects does not wearing a good sports bra when exercising, having on women?

Adele Kershaw: Most women are conscious about how their breasts feel during exercise because they can bounce around, feel uncomfortable and painful, however they are often unaware of the damage that can happen below the surface to the soft tissue and delicate Coopers ligaments inside their breasts if they don't have the correct support. Women are aware of the need for different equipment such as footwear and clothing for different sports, but they need to be aware of the importance of wearing the right sports bra for different sports to prevent this damage.'

Question: At what age do we need to ensure we're wearing the correct sports bra, for exercise?

Adele Kershaw: All ages! A b cup can bounce up to 8cm when active, so we suggest wearing a sports bra when you first start getting into exercise.
