Bianca Power Blood On Your Shoes Interview

R&B Goddess Drops Fierce Debut Single - Blood On Your Shoes

With a Bachelor of Music freshly tucked under her belt, Queensland University of Technology's emerging queen of R&B Bianca Power is ready to leave a lasting first impression on the Australian music scene, with her first debut single 'Blood On Your Shoes' out now.

'Blood On Your shoes' is a story of self-liberation, new-found confidence and never looking back. Smooth as velvet with tranquil keys and laid back RnB grooves, it lends the spotlight to Bianca's entrancing and addictive voice. Her vocals guide you through her self-journey with dynamic emotions emanating from moments of warm soulful somberness that glide into invigorated angelic harmonies. The track exudes fierce confidence that leaves you wanting to walk away from who, where or what has been holding you back from being your best self.

"Blood on your shoes is about the fear of letting go of something that is so familiar but knowing that you can't keep things going as they are. The lyrics turned out pretty dramatic and bold but I didn't want it to be a sad song. I wanted it to be celebratory and express the freedom in taking control of my own circumstances" – Bianca Power

Interview with Bianca Power

Ambient textures and RnB grooves collide with sultry and soulful vocals in the sounds of rising Brisbane singer-songwriter BIANCA. There is a rawness and vulnerability in her bold lyrics that is bound to leave you inspired and wanting more. Following the intimate showcases of her unique sound throughout 2019, Bianca continues to generate buzz as fans anticipate the release of her debut single.

Question: How would you describe your music?

Bianca Power: It's still evolving with every song that I write, but I'm mostly influenced by alternative RnB. I usually sit down to write with a guitar, and then improvise melodies and lyrics over a few chords I like. Then I'll add a beat over the top, whatever flows out is what I'll pretty much stick with so this produces the basis of laid back melodies and some sort of RnB groove.

Question: Can you tell us about Blood On Your Shoes?

Bianca Power: Icame up with Blood On Your Shoes in the same way. I was visiting family in Port Macquarie and had some down time so I sat down in the living room with my guitar, with no idea of what was going to come of it. I like writing this way because I'll surprise myself with what comes out lyrically. Looking back, the lyrics reflect perfectly what I was going through at the time, even if I hadn't realised it then. People kind of think it's about a break-up, but for me personally it was more about realising how I've grown and learning to let go of habits or ideas that weren't good for me. A break-up with my past self I guess (or parts of it).

Question: What motivates you most when writing music?

Bianca Power: Writing gives me clarity, and playing music just makes me feel good. They're both outlets to me so I guess those are my motivations. I've only recently started sharing it with other people which is also a pretty cool feeling.

Question: Do you prefer performing live or recording?

Bianca Power: They're both great in different ways, but probably recording. I prefer the one-on-one interactions with producers/musicians, the atmosphere of bouncing ideas around and capturing something at the end of it!

Question: Which is your favourite song to perform live and why?

Bianca Power: Blood On Your Shoes, it's definitely a more personal song, a bit more upbeat than my others and pretty dynamic so i get to really express myself (laughs). It's just a fun song overall to play.

Question: If you could have anyone, in the world, attend a show, who would it be?

Bianca Power: Attend one of my shows? Probably Lauryn Hill (but I'd also be terrified); she's always been one of my idols.

Question: Which music/artists are you currently listening to?

Bianca Power: SiR and Sabrina Claudio both put out albums this year which I've been spinning lately! Also been listening to Jordan Rakei, Mac Ayres, and a girl from NZ known as Alayna. Brisbane and Australia as a whole is putting some amazing music out; so much good stuff, so many talented musicians, man we are spoilt for choice!

Question: What or who was your inspiration to go into the music industry?

Bianca Power: I don't think it was one thing or person, It was an accumulation of amazing people that I've met including my music teachers throughout school and into university, the local musos of Port Macquarie and Brisbane who have created such a cool little community, and my favourite artists such as Jhene Aiko, Nai Palm, June Marieezy who inspire me.

Question: If you could collaborate with another artist, who would it be?

Bianca Power: If we gel well, I don't discriminate. I love collaborating with whoever's truly interested in my music and vice versa.

Question: What's a typical day like?

Bianca Power: Wake up, tea, yoga, do things Ineed to do but don't want to, do things I don't need to do but want to, music if I haven't already, make dinner, read and bed! Who knows to be honest (laughs) this is my optimal day but every day is different which is what I love about doing music; all about balance.

Question: What has been your favourite part of becoming a music artist?

Bianca Power: Learning more and more every day and just experiencing the world of music, meeting cool people that I wouldn't have the chance to otherwise.

Question: Can you share your socials?

Bianca Power: @biancapower
