Brittany Maggs Launches Debut Single: Lazy Boy

New to the Australian pop music scene, Brittany Maggs has announced the release of her debut single 'Lazy Boy'. The tongue in cheek urban pop anthem, was inspired by talks with her girlfriends about the lazy boys on the modern dating scene, empowering young women and men to be strong, independent and not put up with a lazy boy!

Hailing from Sydney's northwest, this 19-year-old – although fresh faced and sweet – is far from an amateur! The past two years of her life were spent amongst the hustle and bustle of the Los Angeles studio scene where she earned her stripes under the guidance of some of the biggest names in the music industry!

Brittany comments: "I wrote the song in an hour. First it started with a beat with my producer (ZuZu) and I sitting in the studio working out the melody for the song. Then my friend stormed in, frustrated after a failed Tinder date. She continued to tell me how this guy made zero effort to win her affection and that there wouldn't be a second date.

We started talking about guys we'd dated in the past and realised this is something women and men of all ages face in the dating scene. I wrote the song and that's how Lazy Boy was born."

Taking influence from modern pop icons Ariana Grande, Dua Lipa and Bebe Rexha, Brittany is a powerful and diverse vocalist, prolific song writer and enigmatic performer who is more than ready to step into the spotlight as a pop artist in a market where pop is often a dirty word, Ready to knock on every door to ensure her voice is heard!

Interview with Brittany Maggs

Question: What motivated the track, Lazy Boy?

Brittany Maggs: My friend and I were in a session with my producer and we were talking about how guys can just be so lazy nowadays and they expect everything to be done for them without them having to do anything and she basically said "I don't want a lazy boy, I want a man" and I thought that would be the coolest title for a song; we starting writing it and it basically wrote itself in about an hour.

Question: How would you characterise a lazy boy?

Brittany Maggs: A lazy boy to me would be someone that expects everything to be done for them but they won't give anything in return. Someone who thinks that everything comes easy so they don't have to work for it. A lazy boy is basically someone who just sits around all day not being productive and has no drive for getting things done.

Question: What inspires your songwriting?

Brittany Maggs: Whenever I write songs I try to relate them to things going on in my life. I either write about my experiences or I watch other people's lives and write about them or their situations. Mainly I tend to write about whatever emotion I am feeling on that day.

Question: Can you tell us about what you learnt during your time in LA?

Brittany Maggs: LA was an awesome place for me to grow as an artist. Everyone over there is so driven and it just pushes you to always be the best you can be. LA like everywhere has its ups/downs so at times it taught me to be focused and don't believe what everyone can offer but it also offered me some of the best opportunities. I worked with a lot of different styles of producers/writers so it helped me to learn to adapt to different skills and talents.

Question: Which music/artists are you currently listening to?

Brittany Maggs: I'm loving Ariana Grande lately. Zara Larrson, Julia Micheals and James Arthur; I listen to a lot of different styles of music and artists but these are mainly my go to's.

Question: What or who was your inspiration to go into the music industry?

Brittany Maggs: Funnily enough I think Hannah Montana and Camp Rock played a huge role in me wanting to be a singer. I watched those shows religiously and always wanted to be like them. I think also growing up I knew I just wanted to perform for people so singing just seemed like it was the best option and I knew that was what I wanted to do for the rest of my life.

Question: If you could collaborate with another artist, who would it be?

Brittany Maggs: Either Ariana Grande or Miley Cyrus. Those two have been the biggest influences on me as an artist so if I had the opportunity to work with them that would be amazing.

Question: What's a typical day like?

Brittany Maggs: I normally wake up and will have some breakfast, then go for a run or walk, get ready for the day and either head to the studios to write or go to some meetings/appointments. After that's all done I'll come home go do boxing then have dinner and get ready for bed.

Question: Can you share your socials?

Brittany Maggs: @brittanymaggs
Facebook: brittanymaggsmusic
YouTube: Brittany Maggs

Question: What's next, for you?

Brittany Maggs: I'm currently working on my EP so hopefully I'll get to release that soon. I'll be releasing my second single hopefully in the next couple of months and until then just going to be working a lot on my music and me as an artist.
