The Vault is a collection of 12 previously unreleased songs by R&B singer Ashanti, released on May 19, 2009, by AJM Records and The Orchard. The songs were written in 2001 by Ashanti under contract to AJM and before the singer signed with Murder Inc Records. Further production was added before the album's release in 2009. The collect was released without input from Ashanti. It was released in Japan on February 18, 2009, as the first project in the Avex GroupâThe Orchard alliance. According to Billboard, "Let's Do Something Crazy" featuring Flo Rida was lined up as the album's first single, followed by "Imagine Life".

Ashanti's Christmas is the first Christmas album by American R&B/pop singer Ashanti, released in 2003 (see 2003 in music). The album debuted and peaked at #160 on the Billboard 200 and #43 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. The album contained almost an equal amount of new songs, written by Ashanti herself, and covers of Christmas classics. As for singles, Ashanti released a Christmas Medley which featured the songs "Christmas Time Again", "The Christmas Song", and "Hey Santa". A video was shot for the medley and it received moderate rotation on BET and MTV. A reworked version of the original song "Time of Year" would later appear on Ashanti's second Christmas album, A Wonderful Christmas with Ashanti.

The album was recorded between 2001 and 2002 in Crackhouse Studios (New York) and SoundCastle Studios (Los Angeles), during the period of time where Ashanti was writing for other artists. Ashanti worked with a variety of producers including Irv Gotti, Chink Santana, 7 Aurelius, Jared Thomas, Reggie Wright as well as Ashanti co-writing all the songs on the album. Its music incorporates R&B, hip hop, hip hop soul and urban. The album features guest vocals from The Notorious B.I.G., Irv Gotti and Ja Rule.
