Carey Hannah Mulligan (born 28 May 1985) is an English actress and singer. She made her acting debut on the stage in London in the Kevin Elyot play Forty Winks in 2004. Her cinema film debut was playing Kitty Bennet in Pride & Prejudice (2005). Her early roles on BBC television included Ada Clare in Bleak House (2005) and Sally Sparrow in Doctor Who (2007). In 2008, she made her Broadway debut in The Seagull to critical acclaim.
Mulligan was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actress, a Golden Globe, a Screen Actors Guild Award, and won the BAFTA Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role for her role as Jenny Mellor in An Education (2009). In 2015, she was nominated for a Tony Award for Best Lead Actress in a Play for her performance in the Broadway revival of David Hare's Skylight. She had roles in Never Let Me Go (2010), Drive (2011), Shame (2011), The Great Gatsby (2013), Inside Llewyn Davis (2013), Far from the Madding Crowd (2015), Suffragette (2015), and Mudbound (2017).
