For many of us, the mention of India conjures images of monsoons and snake charmers - but this October, an exotic and contemporary exhibition will demonstrate that India today is far removed from the emperors and turbans it was once renowned for.
The India Blue Exhibition, open from October 5 - 7 at Wharf 8, Darling Harbour, will showcase the vibrancy and culture of modern India. Sponsored by travel vacation specialists Incredible India, its unique selection of art, fashion, movies and music will display the country's growing grandeur and numerous opportunities for entrepreneurs and travellers.
India offers unparalleled pleasures including the tropical paradise of Palolem Beach in Goa, the intricate marble-work of the Agra Fort, and the rolling sand dunes of the Thar Desert.
"India is one of the most exciting holiday destinations as you can fully immerse yourself in its culture, traditions and cuisine," says India Blue Event Director Vinita Singh. "The locals are very friendly, accommodating and easy to interact with, meaning travellers can get a true taste of the Indian lifestyle.
"Aside from the major sites and monuments, there are beautiful countrysides, colourful villages, wildlife reserves, beaches and mountains to enjoy. The variety of accommodation, modes of transport and local cultural events make for a rich and diverse experience."
For a sneak preview, visit the India Blue Exhibition where you can drape yourself in silk embroidered pashminas and intricate handmade jewellery, watch a traditional folk dance or try your hand at ancient Indian yoga!
India Blue really has something for everyone including kids' traditional painting classes, Bollywood dance and live music as well as an array of contemporary Indian jewellery, clothing and mouth-watering Indian food available.
"The country is quickly developing and Indian people are blending their influences of ancient art and heritage with their modern way of life," says Ms Singh. "We're encouraging Sydneysiders to come and experience this exciting diversity!"
Mohan Monteiro, President of the Australia-India Business Council NSW comments "Today there is heightened awareness in Australia and India of what each country has to offer. Australia is quickly realising India's full potential, and events such as The India Blue Exhibition are welcome opportunities for the two countries to learn a little more about each other."
The exhibition will be open to trade only on Friday 5th October, and to the general public over 6th - 7th October.
