AUGMENTED REALITY GETS KIDS OUTSIDE TO GROW THEIR OWN FOOD

In a world where kids think cotton comes from an animal and yoghurt grows on trees, kids are losing touch with where real food comes from. The creators of dirtgirlworld, the hit international kids' TV program with a green thumb, have developed a new iPhone app designed to use the latest technology for good – to get kids outside and growing their own food.

The dirtgirlworld app is free to download and allows kids and parents to interact with the star of the show, a virtual dirtgirl, who appears in your garden through your iPhone camera screen. By pointing the iPhone or iPad camera at special markers found within the packets of lettuce, tomato and sunflower seeds, dirtgirl will pop up and become your garden companion.

Gardens take time to grow and dirtgirl will be there every step of the way, reminding you when to water your growing plant and encouraging you with goodies, badges and recipes to make once your plants are ready.
