PROTECT LIPS FROM WINTER'S GRIP
We are now well and truly within winter's icy grasp. If we are planning to remain fighting fit and healthy for the duration of the season we need to think about how to fight the natural elements that winter throws our way.
One of the areas most at risk is our lips. They help us eat, speak, whistle and kiss but they are very sensitive and thin-skinned leaving them susceptible to chaffing, dryness and redness in the colder weather.
'The protective skin on our lips is four to five times thinner compared than the skin on our face. And because there are no sweat glands or hair follicles on our lips, they don't get the same kind of natural protection that skin on other areas of our body does," says Mr Michael Wu, general manager, Nature's Care Australia.
So, treating dry, chapped lips can be tricky. They are vulnerable to the elements. Keeping them soft and smooth may seem like a constant battle. Abusive weather is a real bully, but it's best to fight nature with nature and choose a natural solution to lip protection. Trying to keep your lips out of the cold is not always easy - you can wrap a scarf around your face to block the wind but the real anti-dry lip arsenal is a natural lip balm.
Choose the most emollient balm you can find - look for ingredients such as beeswax, Vitamins, or oils to help lock in moisture and soften and protect lips. Nature's Care Paw Paw Balm (10g, price $3.99) is an all-natural base of beeswax, sunflower seed oil and Vitamin E that delivers superb hydration and helps to protect skin from the drying effects of the elements.
'Lip balms can bring a smile to even the sorest dry lips," says Mr. Wu, 'Balms help build a barrier between your lips' mucus membranes and the outside world, helping lock must-have moisture in."
However, choose your balm carefully as certain ingredients in some balms might actually be sabotaging your hydrating efforts. Some popular lip balms contain ingredients such as phenols or peppermint oil that help exfoliate the chapped flakes of skin from our lips. While these ingredients are great for helping to slough off dry skin, they aren't very good at hydrating. As they encourage exfoliation, they remove the natural oils from the lips.
'Paw paw is packed with the classic -skin vitamins' A, E and C and when combined in a rich premium base, it makes a wonderfully soothing balm to keep skin looking and feeling great during the colder months," said Mr Wu.
For a natural way to beat the elements this winter, Nature's Care Paw Paw Lip Balm (10g, $3.99), can come to the rescue and revive dry, sore lips. The all-natural rich base provides nourishment and protection. It has a fresh fruity natural paw paw flavour and glides smoothly onto lips with the built-in applicator. Lips will look glossy and feel smooth and soft.
