The introduction of Europe's legendary Sensation to Australia on New Year's Eve, 2008, saw the city of Melbourne peacefully overtaken by a sea of people in white, as 40,000 people converged upon Etihad Stadium to take part in the sold out event that was Sensation - an event unlike anything ever seenin this country.
The city's trains and trams were simply festive with white-donned partygoers, and the streets were a vision to behold; there was no mistaking where all thesebeautiful people were heading.
Rewind to earlier that week - just a few days leading up to New Year's Eve - when fashion retailers in the city and surrounding suburbs were run off their feet withthe demand for glamourous white outfits, as people prepared for the firstSensation Australia.
Jump forward again to New Year's Day, 2009 and it would be more than fair to say 40,000 people were basking in the afterglow of a New Year's Eve experience like noother, and as the prime time television news services blasted the headlines"A New Sensation", there was no doubt: Sensation had arrived.
Sensation is set to return to Etihad Stadium on New Year's Eve, 2009, this time with a brand new show that will see the iconic Melbourne venue transformed into a stunning underwater world.
Called "The Ocean of White", this edition of Sensation will show a larger, more expensive show with a bigger and better set up than the first.
Having toured across 11 European capitals, including Amsterdam, Prague, Madrid, Copenhagen and Dusseldorf and attracting over 250,000 people, the props, costumes and rig for "The Ocean of White" will be packed into 40 trailers and shipped to Australian shores in November.
Over 300 people - mostly local, and with the help of some of the Sensation crew from Holland - will work around the clock over four days to transform Etihad Stadium into a breathtaking underwater world, with unrivalled production and special effects.
The 160metre stage stretches the entire length of the arena, with 250,000 litres of harvested water from the Stadium's famous retractable roof running through a raised canal, and 48 enormous fountains bursting water against the roof tothe beats of the music.
Sensation is an experience like no other, and is fast becoming oneof Australia's most hotly anticipated events.
The heaving dance floor, this year divided by an 80 metre riff, will be surrounded by an extraordinary dance, lights and special effects show, and creatures from the deep all around, plus the traditional secret highlight, to celebrate the New Year in style.
