Gatsby styling with VS Sassoon.
Melbourne's innovative fashion retailer Gusto & Élan hosted a Gatsby-themed party at their Brunswick Street retail boutique recently. 'Since the release of the The Great Gatsby, the Roaring Twenties style has been in high demand," said Managing Director Katya Baxter. 'Our designers are loving the Gatsby look and so are our customers. In addition to hosting the party we also shot a series of films to reflect the evolving Gatsby legacy," said Baxter.
Produced by Fred Hates Fashion (fredhatesfashion.com), the bite-sized videos feature designer clothing from Gusto & Élan modeled by Brazen Talent and styled by Sinead Hargreaves; with hair by Tara Fleming at Braided Beauty and styling tools provided by VS Sassoon. And below is a step by step on how to get the these flapper looks using the VS Sassoon 19mm Ultimate Salon Curler.
How To Steps
Right Style – Simone -Finger Wave' Look using the VS Sassoon 19mm Ultimate Salon Curler.
1. Section hair horizontally (2cm sections) starting from the bottom and working to the top.
2. Using your VS Sassoon 19mm Ultimate Salon Curler, create faux finger wave curls by holding your curler vertically with the tip pointing down to the floor. Grab a small section of hair between your thumb and index finger, with your palm facing the ceiling. Turn your hand down to the floor creating a twist in the section of hair you are holding. Wrap this around the curler and bring the hair full circle.
Once back to the start position, your palm should once again be facing the ceiling. Twist hand and hair again by rotating your palm to face the floor and wrap hair around the curler again.
3. This technique allows part of the hair to be curled in a twist and part of the hair to be curled flat which creates the finger wave effect.
4. Repeat this technique section by section. You can do this style as close to your head as you like to get the tight finger wave look, or leave a few inches from the root of the top most layers to create a relaxed wave effect.
5. Once all of your hair is curled, brush out with a wide toothcomb.
6. Finally add a beautiful 20's inspired headband to finish the look.
Tip use a low setting as you will need to hold this curl in place a bit longer than some other curls.
7. Once curled, section hair into three parts – back and two sides.
8. Starting at the back roll hair under from the ends up towards the nape of your neck. Secure with bobby pins. Creating a faux bob.
9. Repeat this step on both side sections.
10. Add 1920s inspired head band to finish the look.
