Love For Music

Love For Music
Music has been a very important part of my life, for it has made me feel that I can achieve anything. Music allows me to express my feelings and thoughts about who I am and how I feel.

I've been playing guitar since Grade Five. One day, my mother and I were walking past a music store and I was immediately drawn to a beautiful Spanish Classical guitar in the window. The guitar brought a sparkle to my eye and it made me feel a love for it. It had an angelic body piece with a beautiful orange glow running through it. The steel strings were illustrious and shiny, longing to be touched and when I saw it, it made the dreams that I had, once before, come alive again.

I was eight years old at the time. However, I had to wait three more years before I finally got my first guitar. I have always been attracted to music, ever since I can remember.

My first guitar was given to me at the age of eleven. It looked like an old Spanish Classical guitar, like the one that I had seen in the window. When I received it, I felt like I was on top of the world. It was a new beginning for me to head for.

This guitar was given to me as a surprise. The guitar was originally my mother's. She had received the guitar when she was at school. She made plans with a girl at school to have guitar lessons but this didn't go ahead. She was only able to play three cords.

Soon after the guitar was passed on to my aunt, Connie, but she didn't take guitar lessons either. Finally I inherited the guitar. This is when my love affair with the instrument began.

I first began playing when I was in Grade Five. This went on for another two years. The third year I began Year 7 and I continued guitar lessons at school. I have played in concerts since the age of eleven and I have received a number of certificates for my efforts. Last year in particular, I participated in a suburban Guitar Festival and a Young Talent Quest. It was a great experience for me to perform in front of a big audience.

I am determined to continue studying and playing guitar and to develop my techniques in playing many aspects of the guitar. I practise every day for half an hour to an hour, depending on how much time I have to spare. I also enjoy composing music for guitar, although I need to write the words before I can construct the music to accompany them.

What I love about music above all else is the sound that is created and the effect of that sound on the soul. It touches a heart so deep and passionately, to hear the strings of a guitar, longing to be strummed.

I hope I will be able to play the guitar for a long time, and ultimately teach my own children in the future, to play and enjoy it as much as I do.
