While many women make the effort to apply make-up, the same can't be said for taking it off. New research commissioned by Dove highlights an alarming trend for women to sleep with their make-up on, a skincare sin which of Australian make-up wearing women (75%) commit.
While 69% of women believe it's bad to sleep with their make-up on, they still do it once a week or more. The excuse? Not being bothered to remove it (55%) is ranked as the number one reason. As a consequence of their actions, those who sleep with their makeup on notice rough skin (23%), stinging eyes (17%) or even a make-up stain on their pillow (43%) the following day. To save your skin and your pillow, Dove has developed Dove Foaming Make Up Remover, which works by effectively removing even the heaviest make-up, including waterproof mascara, eye make-up and foundation.
Dove Foaming Make Up Remover works by instantly transforming from liquid to an ultra fine foam to leave facial skin and eyelashes free from make-up - which is great news for the 53% of women who have had to wash a pillow case after being stained by make-up and even better news for the 9% who have embarrassingly ruined their friend's pillow case. What's more this new product has a formulation that is gentle on skin, while having the added convenience of being able to be applied directly to a wet or dry face, unlike many other make-up removers which are applied using cotton wool pads.
Surprisingly there is still a level of confusion amongst women towards skin cleansing. Nearly half (46%) fail to use a product designed specifically to remove make-up before they cleanse and only a third (32%) of make-up wearing women use a make-up remover as part of their daily skin care routine. Routine is the key word for skincare, so perfecting your skincare routine is an absolute must.
Regardless of how gentle a make-up remover is, the primary role is to remove and strip away the make-up. As a result the moisture balance of your skin can be disturbed, hence the need for a cleanser that can help restore essential nutrients back into your skin. Given that most women take off their make-up at the end of the day it becomes even more critical that they restore moisture before they go to bed.
A three step skincare routine is recommended:
Step One: Powerfully remove make-up, including waterproof mascara and foundation, with Dove Foaming Make Up Remover, so that pores don't get clogged and dirty.
Step Two: Wash with a gentle moisturising face cleanser, such as Dove Beauty Moisture Facial Cleanser, to remove traces of dirt.
Step Three: Moisturise after washing, with Dove Protective Moisturising Lotion, to help prevent future dryness.
Daniel Mullette, Research and Development - Dove, said: "Lifestyle choices have a big influence on the beauty of skin, as well as diet, age, sleep and the seasons too. One of the easiest factors to control is your skincare regime. It's important to have one and it's even more important to stick to it to achieve healthy, smooth skin."
