Interview with Dr Melanie Hartmann, Global Braun skin expert

Question: What is your tip for achieving healthy-looking skin as part of your beauty routine?

Dr Melanie Hartmann: Always remove your makeup, and exfoliate your skin at least once or twice a week to remove the layers of dead skin. This will leave you with a healthy glow and brighter skin.

Question: How should you adapt your beauty routine in the summer versus winter to keep your skin looking and feeling healthy?

Dr Melanie Hartmann: In the summer, you should use a moisturiser with UV protection - actually you should use a moisturiser with UV protection all year round, and you should aim to cleanse and massage the skin on a daily basis to keep it looking fresh and vitalised but do not massage or exfoliate directly after sunbathing as this might irritate the skin. In the winter, your cream should be a little thicker, richer to cope with the winter elements. Daily cleansing and exfoliating should be part of your beauty regimen more so, use your daily cream whilst massaging which will help reinvigorate tired winter skin.

Question: What are your beauty tips for achieving the best facial using tools such as the skin vitalizing pad and exfoliation brush?

Dr Melanie Hartmann: You should aim for a few minutes of massage in the evening as it helps relax the skin, stimulates cell metabolism and skin circulation leaving your skin looking fresh and rejuvenated. The exfoliating brush should be used as part of your daily cleansing routine as it removes the dead skin cells on the service of the skin and helps to prepare the hairs for epilation. Furthermore, the unique skin vitalizing pad provides a gentle facial massage which will also help stimulate the blood circulation, and improve the overall appearance of the skin.

Question: When is the best time to exfoliate your skin and why?

Dr Melanie Hartmann: It's always best to exfoliate in the evening as it can cause the skin to become a little blotchy afterwards. By the morning the redness will have reduced and feel and look smooth and revitalised.

Question: What is the one thing you should always do as part of your facial beauty routine?

Dr Melanie Hartmann: Always remove your makeup. Removing your makeup can make the difference between beautiful, radiant skin and a complexion that looks dull and has clogged pores.

Question: What is the best skincare routine for problematic skin?

Dr Melanie Hartmann: If you have sensitive skin you should only ever use a gentle exfoliating brush and not necessarily use it every day, perhaps only 2-3 times per week as you do not want to irritate spots and pimples.

Question: How many times a day should I cleanse, tone and moisturize?

Dr Melanie Hartmann: Cleanse twice a day and always take off your make-up. Moisturizing regularly is very important and, depending on the needs of your skin, you should do it once or twice a day.
