Celebrating twenty years of friendly ogres and flying dragons
World Premiere at ACMI, Thursday 10th of April 2014

The Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI) and Los Angeles-based studio, DreamWorks Animation, are proud to present DreamWorks Animation: The Exhibition, the studio's first ever large-scale international exhibition. Premiering at ACMI on Thursday 10 April 2014, tickets to the highly anticipated Melbourne Winter Masterpieces exhibition go on sale on Monday 17 February.

DreamWorks Animation: The Exhibition is ACMI's largest ever exhibition, featuring over 400 items including, never-before-seen concept drawings, interviews, models and original artworks, and interactive experiences for children and adults. Visitors will lose themselves in the extraordinary worlds created by DreamWorks' award-winning artists and travel with beloved characters, from original sketches through to grumpy ogres, friendly dragons and Kung Fu-fighting pandas.

ACMI Director and CEO, Tony Sweeney, says visitors will be able to go beyond the screen and chart the creative journey of a DreamWorks Animation film, from the first idea or concept sketched on a Post-It note, through to the final completed project.

'In celebration of the creative contribution that DreamWorks Animation has made to the field of animation over the last 20 years, visitors will be able to fully explore the artists' visions from concept to screen, and experience the groundbreaking technologies that the studio has used to create its memorable stories, characters, and worlds," said Tony.

DreamWorks Animation: The Exhibition will showcase the four major film series: Shrek, How to Train Your Dragon, Madagascar and Kung Fu Panda, along with early hand-drawn films, such as The Prince of Egypt (1998) and Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron (2002), and a selection of recent releases including The Croods (2013), and the forthcoming feature film Mr. Peabody & Sherman (2014). The entire back catalogue of 29 DreamWorks feature films will be represented in the exhibition.

Curated by ACMI in collaboration with DreamWorks Animation, the exhibition brings together Melbourne-based curators and creatives, and the animators, artists and producers of a major international studio for the first time in the Melbourne Winter Masterpieces series.

Alongside the exhibition, ACMI will present a program of film, public, and education programs, to be announced soon.

DreamWorks Animation: The Exhibition will have its world premiere at ACMI on Thursday 10 April and will run until Sunday 5 October 2014, before touring the world. For more information, please visit acmi.net.au/dreamworks
