Dylan Benson Home + Away Interview

Dylan Benson Home + Away Interview

Interview with Dylan Benson

Question: Tell us about yourself, Dylan. Where are you from?

Dylan Benson: I'm from Sydney, Australia. I work as an actor and model here in Sydney. I just recently shot an episode of Home and Away, which is something I've been working at for many years now. I'm also obsessed with going outdoors, training in the gym and cooking anything from choc chip cookies to wood fired pizzas.

Question: And has acting always been the goal?

Dylan Benson: Acting most certainly wasn't always the goal. I wanted to be a pilot for a while, then a doctor and then a financial trader. I even graduated from The University of Sydney with a major in finance and marketing. About a year into my degree I really fell in love with acting and the rest is history!

Question: When was the first time you got in front of a camera?

Dylan Benson: I've been in front of the camera since around 2. There's a photo of my dad and I for Fathers Day for Levi's when I was a baby. I also shot my first TV commercial when I was 15.

Question: How did you get into modelling?

Dylan Benson: I'd been scouted a few times but agencies never picked me up. I'd also applied quite a few times and been rejected. I booked a Lonsdale campaign in 2015 while freelance and after that an agency picked me up. The day I got signed I booked an editorial for Cosmopolitan and I've been doing it ever since.

Question: Was it a seamless transition into acting?

Dylan Benson: There are definitely elements of modelling that apply to acting. Being comfortable in front of the camera from modelling helped a lot. Otherwise, I've had to work very hard with my coach, as there's so much to learn for acting; they're very different

Question: And tell us about Home & Away. Who do you play?

Dylan Benson: I played a character called Jack, who's a real bad boy. He's basically cocky, a smart arse, and the ring leader of his posse. Having grown up watching Home and Away, it was kind of surreal to finally star on it. It was also an amazing experience to work on such a large-scale production, something I hadn't had the opportunity to do yet.

Question: Had any run-ins with 'Alf' yet?

Dylan Benson: No runs in with Alf but who flamin' knows, that could change

Question: And what people mightn't realise is that your father was a star on the show a few years back. What does he make of you invading his territory?

Dylan Benson: He's been out of the industry for over 20 years now but he's been very supportive so has my mother who was also on the show for a while; that's actually how they met. Time for me to carry the family name in the Home and Away world (laughs).
