Easter At Sovereign Hill

Step back in time as the story lives on this Easter at Sovereign Hill, with an Easter school holiday program that celebrates plenty of 1850s fun and games for the entire family.

Visitors can witness a $150,000 gold pour, pan for real gold, and strike it rich just like the ladies and gents of the goldfields. Watch the Redcoat soldiers, in their brand new uniforms, march ceremoniously down Main Street each day, try your hand at candlemaking, or catch a hilarious pantomime in the Victoria Theatre.

Some of the special activity highlights include:

Oliver Twisted Performance: Oliver Twist is one of the most famous stories of all time – especially in the 1850s when Charles Dickens was the most successful English novelist ever! It's the story of a poor orphan boy and his adventures in both London's underworld and gentry. See our adaption of this famous play where we need someone to play Oliver – could it be you? 2.15pm daily, Victoria Theatre

Jack and the Beanstalk Pantomime: This is a good old-fashioned pantomime where you can boo the villain, and cheer the hero, but in the end, good triumphs and everyone lives happily ever after! 11.15am daily, Victoria Theatre

Giant Crinoline: See the latest fashions of the Goldfields as inspired by the satirical cartoons of Punch magazine. 1pm daily, Main Street

Crafts and Games: Allow your creative side to flourish in our craft area, and play with some traditional 1850s games. 11am-4pm daily, Horse Bazaar

Great Pedestrian Feat: Walk 1 mile (1.6 km) every hour for 1,000 consecutive hours – sounds simple, right? But that means more than 41 days of walking a mile every single hour! The idea captured the imagination of all during the 1800s, with many people attempting -The Great Pedestrian Feat' – but almost all of them failed. See what happens when an attempt is made in Ballarat! 3.30pm daily, Main Street

The Goldfields Quoits Challenge: Compete against the diggers of the Goldfields to see who can be named the Goldfields Quoits Champion! 4.20pm daily, Main Street
