Australian celebrity Endometriosis Australia ambassadors will be supporting this year's EndoMarch 2016 to raise awareness of the disease that affects one in ten women and its symptoms by hosting -Yellow High Tea' events across six states in Australia.
Media personality and Radio Wave FM's Mel Grieg along with Radio 2DAYFM's Elle Angel, Radio Nova 100's Sarah Maree Cameron and South Australian designer Kate Anderson will all host Yellow High Tea events in their respective states.
Run by Endometriosis Australia, each EndoMarch Australia 2016 -High Tea' event will include guest endometriosis expert speakers that will offer insight into the disease and treatments.
Suitable for women, teenage girls, their families and friends the events will also include the world premiere of the 15 minute film, -Endo & Us' – an Australian documentary film that explores the effects of the disease and how it impacts the daily lives of women.
This groundbreaking documentary showcases the real life experiences of women with endometriosis, exploring the impacts of this disease first hand as well as interviews with health professionals.
Endometriosis is a common disease in which the tissue that is similar to the lining of the
womb grows outside it in other parts of the body. 10% of women suffer with endometriosis at some point in their life with the disease often starting in teenagers.
Symptoms are variable and this may contribute to the 7 to 10 year delay in diagnosis. Common symptoms include pelvic pain that puts life on hold around or during a woman's period. It can damage fertility. Whilst endometriosis most often affects the reproductive organs it is frequently found in the bowel and bladder and has been found in muscle, joints, the lungs and the brain.
In an Australian government report, endometriosis is reported to cost Australian society $7.7 billion annually with two thirds of these costs attributed to loss in productivity with the remainder, approximately $2.5 billion being direct healthcare costs.
Endometriosis Australia is a nationally accredited charity that endeavours to increase recognition of endometriosis, provide endometriosis education programs, and provide funding for endometriosis research.
