After welcoming more than 20,000 visitors in 2018, The European Night Market returns to Madame Brussels Lane every Friday night this July with a 30% bigger footprint, more stalls than ever before, and neon-drenched entertainment.
Running every Friday 5pm – 10pm, the Euro disco inspired market will stamp your culinary passport with bites from Switzerland, France, Spain, Italy, Poland, Turkey and Greece, as well as looping performances from Tanya George and retro beats by Fleiss. Dating back to 1853, the infamous Oddfellows Hotel will reopen its doors for four weeks only to peddle custom-made Hot Toddies and Mulled Wine.
Taste buds will be transported to Europe's hotspots – a stop to Italy with Café Babbo's Nutella-stuffed doughnuts, crisp pastries from Eat Cannoli, panzerotti from Il Panzerotto Taste of Puglia and delicious riffs on the classics from Tiramisu Lift Me Up. Sweet French favourites will be served up by Pop Up Crepe, The Brulee Cart, and Degani, while Frencheese will sling bowls of oozing, melted raclette. The Eurotrip continues with German sausages smothered in cheese, sauerkraut and caramelised onion from Bavarian Bangers, and pillowy, hand-rolled bretzels from Bretzel Biz. Pierogi Pierogi returns with their cult classic Polish dumplings.
Say "hola" to giant dishes of Spanish rice from Elena's Paella, "Merhaba" to Turkish dips and gözleme from Göz City and "more please" to Chooh La La's hot candied (and vegan) nuts. This year sees the addition of Swiss Made, who will debut delicious malakoffs (fried cheese), smoked meats and sauerkraut, while Hella Good will bring coeliac-friendly souvlakis and gyros, and assorted Greek sweets. Discounted cuts from the Men's Barber Shop will be available along with scarves and beanies from Melbourne retailer Spoilt.
The laneway will come alive with retro disco beats from performer Fleiss, while Tanya George is set to impress with a unique looping set. Roving entertainers The Quizzical Mr Jeff and Sam Starr will add a touch of sparkle and glamour as they don bespoke costumes created by British designer Ariane Bingham.
Visitors can enjoy tipples from the CBD's only distillery, Little Lon Distilling Co, where gin is created at the historic 17 Casselden Place site weekly. Sample the Night Market's very own cocktail - A Lon Winter's Night: Ginger Mick Gin, Le Birlou apple and chestnut liqueur, lemon, cloudy apple juice and orgeat served warm and topped with flaked almonds and fresh nutmeg.
The European Night Market is the ultimate way to say goodbye to the working week and hello to the weekend this July.
