Lascivious, poetic and dizzyingly inventive, Joann Sfar's fairy tale on the French iconoclast marks a bold (and satisfying) departure from the standard biopic. Opening in Nazi-occupied Paris and charting Serge from childhood onwards, this is a spectacular tribute to the provocateur and his music. Eric Elmosnino is staggering in the title role.
