Glass Tides Are a Five-Piece Emo-Rock Ensemble from Adelaide, South Australia
Glass Tides are a five-piece emo-rock ensemble from Adelaide, South Australia and are wasting no time to establish themselves nationwide by supporting artists such as Thrice, Circa Survive, Spiderbait, Body Jar, Young Lions and more. The group's unique integration of both of post-hardcore and metal-core music accompanied by the passionate and raw vocals has ignited excitement around the world upon their establishment in late 2017. Along the way, the group has released two EPs, Thoughts (2017) & My Descend (2018), and will be dropping their first full-length in January 2020.
Adelaide post-hardcore five-piece Glass Tides are dropping their next single "Sympathy" on Friday 15th October. Alongside singles "Crawling" and "Waste" it serves as the perfect taster ahead of the release of the band's full-length album, set for release on 17th January 2020. Featuring nihilistic yet scintillating emo-pop, the track serves as the perfect anodyne to the existential disillusionment of today.
"It takes on a soft rock vibe, really focusing on the lyrics," said the band. "Bringing out the most horrible thoughts you could think of yourself while in a dark place, but then still having hope that you are able to be whoever you want to be".
Interview with Glass Tides
Question: How would you describe your music?
Glass Tides: Emotional, fierce, powerful and confronting.
Question: Can you tell us about the track Sympathy?
Glass Tides: Sympathy is our third single from our upcoming album release "In Between" out January 17th.
Sympathy is a slightly softer song for us on the album, the music takes a step back and just flows through this one as the song targets depression, and is written from the perspective of all dark thoughts and emotion that you sometimes feel like you can't escape.
Question: What motivates you most when writing music?
Glass Tides: Life experiences, we all have so much going on trying to make our way through our 20s. Whether is be relationship troubles, work and career paths, life choices, depression, we find these topics just pouring into our songs.
Question: Do you prefer performing live or recording?
Paul: We are split down the middle on this one, George and Jack love the live performance more, while Oscar and I prefer being in the studio.
All in all though we love doing both, if it's got anything to do with music and being creative we are always 100% with it.
Question: Which is your favourite song to perform live and why?
Glass Tides: One of our first that we ever release, "Weighing Down", we always gets a great kick out of playing it live but we are excited to see which of the new songs will be our favourite!
Question: If you could have anyone, in the world, attend a show, who would it be?
Glass Tides: Honestly anyone who wants to see us perform, we get contacted by people overseas that always want us to make our way over, so it would be amazing to be able to bring them to a show!
Question: What is the story behind the band name?
Glass Tides: The hardest part of starting a band is the name, I swear!
We had a few words that we liked and felt portrayed the vibe we were expressing, and Glass Tides ended up being the one that we liked the most after our long process of about two months.
Question: How did the band come together?
Glass Tides: Four best mates from high school, we had always been in bands growing up, but not until about two years ago we were all band free and decided to finally get together and have some fun.
Question: Which music/artists are you currently listening to?
Glass Tides: Point North, Windwaker, Emarosa, Bring Me The Horizon, Stand Atlantic and With Confidence.
Question: What or who was your inspiration to go into the music industry?
Glass Tides: Back in high school just wanting to pick up a guitar or play the drums, we had a really great music teacher who would let us jump in the music room and jam every lunch time, trying to play any Blink 182 song that we could. That really set the tone for us and our passion for music.
Question: If you could collaborate with another artist, who would it be?
Glass Tides: Stand Atlantic, absolutely loving their new tunes and they are killing it, would be a fun experience.
Question: What's a typical day like?
Glass Tides: We all work full time jobs, so we are on that grind, Mondays nights we always get together for band practice or organisation etc.
Question: Can you share your socials?
Glass Tides:
