Gold Coast Bid Boosted at Youth Games

The Chair of the Gold Coast bid for the 2018 Commonwealth Games, Mark Chapman, visited the Youth Olympic Village in Singapore this week. Chapman toured the Village and made a special visit to the Australian residence to greet Chef de Mission Nick Green.
"I was really impressed with the organisation of the Village and in particular the education program," Chapman said.
"Sport is such a wonderful way for youth of the world to mix and understand each other's culture."

Chapman toured the residential zone, the dining hall, the transport mall and the Village Square where the culture and education activities are taking place.
"Each country had its own display with athletes engaging in an interactive way to learn about the Olympic values."

Chapman was in Singapore to meet the voting countries and territories for the Commonwealth Games of which 52 of 71 are also Olympic members.
"This has been a great opportunity to explain the plans for our bid over the next 15 months," Chapman said.
"We are inviting delegates to the Gold Coast from May to October next year before the winner of the bid is announced in November."

Chapman is very excited about the prospect of the Gold Coast hosting the Commonwealth Games. With only two cities bidding, a 50 per cent chance is promising.
