Golden Coconut Creations Engraved Wooden Sunglasses

Golden Coconut Creations' new range of engraved wooden, polarised sunglasses has launched on Kickstarter. GCC is more than about just making amazing sunglasses: 'We don't just want to do well, we also want to do good". In line with this, GCC is working with communities in Fiji to plant native and mangrove trees to help build resilience from natural disasters and enhance the productivity of our environment.

Our sunglasses are hand-made from sustainably sourced wood. The engraved designs on the side of our sunglasses feature traditional South Pacific motifs developed and handed down by our ancestors. 'In the past these designs were carved on the sides of our canoes, weaved into our sails and mats, painted on our pots, etched on our tools and tattooed on our bodies."

In South Pacific societies, the interconnectedness of human beings and their physical environment is strongly established. Both economic and spiritual value is placed on our environment. Our environment, just like our traditional designs, is an important part of our identity.

Mangroves play an important part in Pacific Island nations and contribute to the protection of coastlines. They help mitigate the effects of climate change and extreme weather events. July 26 is UNESCO's -International Day for the Conservation of the Mangrove Ecosystem'.

Golden Coconut Creations was founded by three Pacific Islanders in 2010. 'We wanted to create sunglasses that celebrated our unique island heritage and paid tribute to the environment; sunglasses that were not only functional but that also spoke to people; that were dynamic, and looked good".
