Fourteen-time Golden Guitar Award winner, Graeme Connors is bringing his 'from the backcountry' album tour to Victoria this month, performing at Caravan Music Club on Friday, November 22, Bendigo's Capital Theatre on Saturday, November 23 and a sold-out Burke and Wills Winery show on Sunday, November 24.
Recognised as one of Australia's most eclectic singer/songwriters, Graeme has received numerous awards during his more than 40-year career for his contribution to Country Music. Golden Guitars, ARIA, PPCA and APRA Awards line his shelves, with his most recent prestigious accolade, 2016 inductee to the Roll of Renown (Australia's Country Music Hall of Fame).
During his much-anticipated two-hour shows, fans will enjoy the hits that made him a household name, favourites from his 19-album catalogue and songs from his new album 'from the backcountry', which was released in August and features his latest singles 'One Life' and 'Kimberley Frontier' – all performed with the backing of an incredible band: Gary Carruthers (banjo, guitar, mandolin, vocals), Jeff Camilleri (bass, vocals) and Scott Hills (percussion, drums, vocals).
'from the backcountry' debuted at #4 on the ARIA Country Albums chart and #6 on the ARIA Australian Artists Albums (all genres) chart. It was recorded with multi-award winning Australian Producer Matt Fell at his Sydney studio and combines Graeme's signature modern country sound with elements of rock, blues and roots.
Says Connors, "This album enters new terrain for me as both a singer and songwriter. I'm growing with my fans and diversifying my sound.
"Australian Country is who I am… and always will be. I'm constantly trying to capture the Australian story in my music and naturally I draw inspiration from regional communities and the vast and diverse landscape that is our backyard."
'from the backcountry' is Connors' first album of all new material in seven years, since the release of At the Speed of Life in 2011.
The album is essentially a lyrical journal of Graeme's explorations over the past few years.
"I'm still amazed and excited to find, with all my years of travel and experience there are places from the backcountry, both in the physical landscape and my subconscious world, that inspire me to write – to capture life in all its mystery and wonder," Connors says.
