Graham The Grand Go Interview

I Don't Know Why I Feel The Way I Do

Multi-talented singer, songwriter and producer Graham The Grand returns with a new single off his debut project 'I Don't Know Why I Feel The Way I Do' called 'Go'. After moving from his hometown of Brisbane down to Melbourne to follow his passion of music, Graham The Grand is ready to release the music that he has spent all year creating.

With a sound comparable to EDEN and even a touch of our home-grown KIAN, Graham The Grand brings a DIY talent that has seen him be able to create and produce the exact sound that he has envisioned. Sourcing inspiration from artists like nothing, nowhere., EDEN, Jeremy Zucker and XXXTentacion that has created an indie/pop/hip-hop fusion of storytelling honesty. 'I Don't Know Why I Feel The Way I Do' extrapolates the hardships faced by Graham The Grand on his ongoing journey with anxiety and depression – a theme that ripples through the subject matter of each song on the project.

'Go' delivers a nostalgic down-tempo melancholic reflection on the experience Graham The Grand has had with another. Filled with light guitars, a mellow synth layer and a kick drum coupled with rolling percussion, 'Go' provides a simple and powerful arrangement that pushes Graham's Kian-like vocals to the front of the mix. Showcasing a raw emotion that captures the listener.

With Graham The Grand sitting on a full-length-project consisting of 6 more self-produced bangers from 'I Don't Know Why I Feel The Way I Do', he is definitely one to keep an eye on moving into 2019.

Interview with Graham The Grand

Question: How would you describe your music?

Graham The Grand: I always find it hard describing my music to people, if I was to label it I'd want it to be experimental or alternative pop with an electronic foundation.

Question: What was the main inspiration behind the track, Go?

Graham The Grand: I wrote 'Go' whilst being in a relationship and allowing my own anxiety to get in the way of it. I felt like I knew that the partner wanted to leave in response to how difficult I was being, the song speaks to that emotion thinking you know what that person is feeling/thinking.

Question: What can we expect from the upcoming project 'I Don't Know Why I Feel The Way I Do'?

Graham The Grand: 'I Don't Know Why I Feel The Way I Do' is acknowledging the anxiety in my life, I always thought I was going to beat it but I'm just slowly trying to learn to be okay with it, okay with the uncertainty in life. Don't expect anything. If you go into it with expectations you'll probably be let down. If you listen, then listen and take from it what you do. All I know is what I say is honesty from my own experience, what I speak of is very real to me and it's a privilege to share that with the world.

Question: What message of mental health do you hope to spread with 'I Don't Know Why I Feel The Way I Do'?

Graham The Grand: I really want to be there for people who are battling low moments in their lives. I lost my best friend to suicide a few months ago and it ruined me, I've learnt in my times of despair the artists and music I connect with give me that glimmer of hope and relation that I need. So that's who I want to be to others facing similar situations in life.

Question: What inspired the move to Melbourne?

Graham The Grand: My best friend and I moved at the start of the year, I planned to study a scholarship back then it didn't work out for me so I moved back to Brisbane. During that time I met someone who had a job opportunity for me that brought me back which is what I'm doing now. I'm excited to network in a new city and hopefully start playing some local shows.

Question: Which music/artists are you currently listening to?

Graham The Grand: I listen to two different spheres of music at the moment, solo artists and some hardcore bands: nothing, nowhere., EDEN, Jeremy Zucker, XXXTENTACION, Future Jr. & A Day to Remember, The Amity Affliction, Beartooth and Bullet for My Valentine.

Question: What or who was your inspiration to go into the music industry?

Graham The Grand: Rewinding back a few years when I was in the DJ Scene, Kygo was actually a big influence on me. But more recently for this project, EDEN and Jeremy Zucker definitely gave me the inspiration to take a hold of all my passions and combine them into one.

Question: If you could collaborate with another artist, who would it be?

Graham The Grand: I would love to work with a producer named Jay Vee, he's produced a lot of nothing, nowhere's music and he's awesome at what he does. It'd just be a relief at some stage in my career to have some of that work taken from my hands.

Question: What's next, for you?

Graham The Grand: Onto the next project, writing more music and trying to look after myself at the same time. I'm also working on putting together a live show, which I'm really excited to play in the future.
