Simple, stylish and sustainable
Independent with a sustainable focus, Melbourne fashion label Green Eyed Monster is celebrating its first year of creating beautiful clothing for women who care about the environment.
Designer Anne Ryan's simple, silhouette designs printed on super soft 100% certifiedorganic cotton fabrics using eco friendly dyes have attracted the eye and support ofboutiques keen to stock Australian independent designers.
Anne said, "With Earth Hour looming on the 27 March, it is a timely opportunity to considerour impact on our planet. Starting with small steps in our own backyards is an easy way wecan all start reducing the negative impacts we have on our environment."
Anne researched extensively to find fabrics, printers and manufacturers who share hercommitment to reducing the impact of fashion production on the environment.
Her current range of whimsical bird designs are made using predominantly Australian madecertified organic cotton, accredited Oeko Tex 100 Eco dyes for colour fastness and printedusing water based inks.
Anne said, "Encouraging people to think about the cotton before they buy is one way wecan initiate a change. Current cotton mass production practices use astonishing amounts ofunnecessary harmful bleaches and chemicals at the growing, processing and manufacturingstages.
"Our cotton is Control Union Certified Organic Cotton, grown without the use of pestcides, synthetic fertilisers and from non genetically modified seed. This organic cotton is grownusing little or no irrigation and water stock piling. Predominantly made in Australia, it alsotravels less, another way its environmental impact is reduced.
"There are gorgeous organic fabrics available today including super soft cottons, merinowools and silks. As demand grows so will the range. I am really excited about introducingthem to our customers through our Green Eyed Monster collections."
During Earth Hour week, Green Eyed Monster will double their usual donation of $5.00 toFriend of the Earth for all online sales.
