Miley Cyrus/Hannah Montana Interview

Q. One of the cool things about Hannah Montana is that she leads a double life. As the song says, "It's the 'Best of Both Worlds." Why do you think kids relate to that story line so strongly and positively?

Miley Cyrus/Hannah Montana: I think kids relate to the show because my character has a normal family and normal friends who are all really supportive and at the same time, being Hannah allows for dream fulfillment. The message is really that you can be anything you want to be.

Q. Your dad is obviously a big influence on you--and a regular presence on the set. What are some of the best things he's taught you about doing your music and performing?

Miley Cyrus/Hannah Montana: The one thing that he's told me that has always stuck is "If you're not having any fun, it isn't working."

Q. Right now, you're both an actor and a singer. Which came more naturally for you?

Miley Cyrus/Hannah Montana: Well, I've been on stage with my dad since I was about three years old. I've always loved to sing - and I'm always writing songs, even in my sleep! I'll wake up in the middle of the night and write things down.

Q. What's the number one thing your fans want to know about you?

Miley Cyrus/Hannah Montana: I think that I'm just like them. I'm a regular girl with a normal family and friends who don't treat me any differently than they always have.

Q. What advice do you have for kids who are discovering and pursuing their dreams--whatever those might be?

Miley Cyrus/Hannah Montana: Stick to it. I don't know how many times I auditioned for Hannah Montana and they kept sending me away saying I was too young, but I kept coming back!

Q. Now, your given name is Destiny Hope Cyrus. How did you get the name Miley?

Miley Cyrus/Hannah Montana: Ever since I was born, my dad used to call me smiley because I was always smiling. It just got shortened to Miley and that's what everyone calls me.

Q. What's the most challenging part of what you do?

Miley Cyrus/Hannah Montana: I think the most challenging part of what I do is balancing work and school along with my friends and family time. My schedule is always pretty hectic.

Q. What's the best part of what you do?

Miley Cyrus/Hannah Montana: The best part is doing what I love and that's acting and singing. I hope to be doing it for as long as the fans want us to.

Q. Pretend you're on an episode of MTV Cribs. What would the cameraman find when he opened up your fridge?

Miley Cyrus/Hannah Montana: Cookie Dough, Strawberries, Milk

Q. What superpower would you want to have and why?

Miley Cyrus/Hannah Montana: The ability to be invisible because I'm very nosey!

Q. How has your life changed since Hannah Montana?

Miley Cyrus/Hannah Montana: Everything is completely different! I come from this really small town near Nashville, Tennessee, where everything was la-di-da and normal. And then, all of a sudden, everything is completely the opposite! I went from living in slow motion to living at 200 miles an hour!

Q. How does the real-life Miley resemble to TV Miley?

Miley Cyrus/Hannah Montana: The differences are easiest - I am not very good at keeping secrets at all! If you want your secret kept do not tell me! I'll be triggered by a memory and I'll just want to say what it is! Or I'll say to my mom, "You will not believe what is happening!"

Q. What is it like to work with your dad on the show?

Miley Cyrus/Hannah Montana: It's weird because at home, I'm a normal 13-year-old girl. I'll say, "Dad, you are so annoying! Leave me alone!" But then the next day he'll have to come with me to work - and we have an hour long drive! That's when he'll say, "Okay, lets talk!" since I can't get out of the car! What's good is that once my dad and I are home we are done. We don't even run lines together. Anything that happens on the set stays on the set.

Q. Have you had an embarrassing moment recently?

Miley Cyrus/Hannah Montana: Just today, one of the prop guys gave my dad a mechanical "fart machine" and he kept making it go off every time I walked by. It would be really quiet and suddenly it would make the sound. Then my dad would say, "Gosh, Mile!" He put it on a timer, too, so it would go off during my scenes. It was horrible!

Q. Are you and your onscreen best friend, Emily Osment, friends in real life?

Miley Cyrus/Hannah Montana: Yes, but we are complete opposites! And sometimes we don't agree. She's very into soccer and I'm more of a shopper. But our friendship works!

Q. Do you have any prized possessions?

Miley Cyrus/Hannah Montana: I always have two bracelets on my right arm. One is a purple and white bracelet from a fan. I love it! I also wear a bracelet from a water park - I've had it on for two or three years. My mom says it's pretty nasty, actually. But you'll never see me without them, ever! In magazine photos the bracelets are sometimes airbrushed out, but viewers will always see me wearing them in scenes!
