Honey Hayze Zombie Interview

Honey Hayze Release Ghoulish New Single Zombie

Bondi 5-piece Honey Hayze haven't wasted any time getting their name and music out into the world. Formed only two years ago, the band has already managed to fit in a European tour and two headline East Coast tours. They've also gigged with the likes of Art vs Science, Skeggs, Sloan Pterson, Bec Sandridge and Harts. Playing and nailing it live is a big part of the Honey Hayze mantra; make the kids groove and good times will be had.

2020 has been off to a cracking start for Honey Hayze. Always looking to surprise their fans, the band decided to throw a 2nd anniversary birthday bash in the back streets of Bondi, transforming a backyard with a stage, lasers, smoke machines, and 300 excited friends and fans. It got loose!

Coming off the back of the success of previous single "Afternoon", the Bondi Beach 5-piece are right back at it again with new single, "Zombie". The track is heavy hitting from the get go and even features some high energy saxophone which can't help but steal the limelight.

"The song draws references from a lost love morphing into a zombie after being in a state of despair. With a falling world they become a roaming zombie looking for their lost lover." - Earl Weir (Vocals)

Stay tuned for the debut EP from Honey Hayze which will be dropping later in 2020.

Honey Hayze are - Earl Weir( Lead Vox), Rory Wheatley (Lead Guitar), Angus Hart (Drums), Luke Martin (Bass) & Lachlan Pearse (Sax).

Interview with Earl Weir

Question: How would you describe your music?

Earl Weir: An infusion of funk, psych, blues and rock and roll.

Question: Can you tell us about Zombie?

Earl Weir: It's a super big sound and goes off live; pretty fun to get in character for this one.

Question: What inspired Zombie?

Earl Weir: Was seeing a girl got ghosted, and a few weeks later she was engaged… congrats to them.

Question: Is there a particular message you hope listeners take from your music?

Earl Weir: No message, but look how much fun we're having. You can do it too, just start then figure it out as you go.

Question: Do you prefer performing live or recording?

Earl Weir: Live fo sho. We love the process of recording with Oscar and hanging out and breaking down songs, but give us a crowd and a stage all day!

Question: Which is your favourite song to perform live and why?

Earl Weir: I'm going to say 'Afternoon'. Was actually a bit of a set filler before Europe then by the third or fourth show everyone was chanting the chorus back to us which was rad. Now the crowds sing it everywhere we play, so you better aswell.

Question: What should we expect from your upcoming tour?

Earl Weir: Who know? On a band level we hope it runs smooth. With live music you need to expect the unexpected. The shows will be rowdy for sure. Hopefully no more flying garden chairs in mosh pits. Stay safe kids.

Question: If you could have anyone, in the world, attend a show, who would it be?

Earl Weir: Gladys (NSW Premier) of course. She loves the music and arts!

Question: How did the band come together?

Earl Weir: Gus and Shrekky have been playing music together most there life, then a few through skating, and the others at kick ons and jams.

Question: What motivates you most when writing music?

Earl Weir: How fun a tracks going to be live.

Question: Which music/artists are you currently listening to?

Earl Weir: I'm pretty old school: Doors, Stones CCR , whatever's on Smooth FM while I'm slaving away at work all week.

Question: What or who was your inspiration to go into the music industry?

Earl Weir: I guess the first time you see a gig or hear a track you picture yourself doing it. First gig I remember was at Geelong Arena, maybe 12 years old on Dad's shoulders watching Midnight Oil. I'd then print our lyrics to each song and take the folder to school and read them all day.

Question: If you could collaborate with another artist, who would it be?

Earl Weir: I'd love to do some house tracks, I did a demo with my mate from Human Movement, I liked how that sounded.

Question: What's a typical day like?

Earl Weir: I wake up at 4am, head to work, listen to our demos, try work on them a bit, drive an excavator for ten hours, back on the train, then home to rehearsals or a jam, maybe a swim down Bondi if I'm lucky. Living the Dream right ?

Question: What has been your favourite part of becoming a music artist?

Earl Weir: Working within the group, the people you meet, the opportunities and good times. Also learning something new and challenging yourself daily and having the perfect avenue to express emotions and thoughts and create something that's there forever.

Question: What's next, for you?

Earl Weir: Zombie tour kicks off then finish off the EP and go tear up some more stages.

Question: Can you share your socials?
