With their 1992 debut self-titled EP began the long and fruitful career of one of Australia's favourite power pop bands; Icecream Hands. Now, after downing the tools in 2007 having notched up 6 albums, 2 ARIA nominations, countless miles and many memorable shows, Charles Jenkins, Derek G Smiley, Douglas Lee Robertson and Marcus Goodwin will come together to play a handful of shows to celebrate the 20th anniversary of their critically acclaimed album Sweeter Than The Radio.
Featuring favourites 'Nipple', 'Dodgy' and 'Yellow & Blue', Sweeter Than The Radio was Icecream Hands' most successful album, earning them numerous accolades culminating in an ARIA nomination at the 1999 ARIA Awards.
20 years after its original release, Icecream Hands will mark the milestone by releasing a remastered version of Sweeter Than The Radio on March 1, 2019. And for the vinyl junkies, Icecream Hands have launched a PledgeMusic campaign offering the chance to purchase a limited edition, double LP gatefold sleeve version of Sweeter Than The Radio (Remastered), with an additional 4 bonus tracks, as well as plenty of other awesome bits and bobs – some old and some brand new.
Throughout their career Icecream Hands toured extensively, playing with the likes of Ryan Adams, Fountains of Wayne, Robyn Hitchcock and Teenage Fanclub, as well as local favourites Powderfinger and The Whitlams. They proceeded to embark on their own headline tour of the country, supported by none other than Australian icons, Jet. The band made a number of TV appearances over their 15 years including guest performances on Rove, the 10:30 Slot and Hey Hey It's Saturday. Icecream Hands also featured on numerous festival line-ups including SXSW, Big Day Out, Adelaide Fringe Festival, Brunswick Street Festival and the inaugural Meredith Music Festival.
In the last few years, they have regrouped to play exclusive sold out shows, cementing their popularity as crowd favourites.
Icecream Hands continue to hold a special place in the hearts of all music fans who love beautifully crafted songs and a great live experience.
