Isadore Leuven: As indie-pop-rock, but to be honest we're not really about genres. We just make write music like we feel it, and as it comes in the moment. Some tracks are more 'poppy', others funky or bluesy. It's honest music, always straight from the heart.
Question: Can you tell us about Snowflake?
Isadore Leuven: Snowflake is our newest single; it's about how love doesn't always come easy. You need to work for it, to make it work. How it can be hard to keep on holding on and fight.
Question: What inspired Snowflake?
Isadore Leuven: When Joanne (our frontwoman) wrote the song, she started with the melody (as you hear it at the beginning of the song) and imagined it was winter, snowing. How that can be a soothing thought, the calm of winter and not getting to go outside because all the roads are blocked due to the snow. And how it would feel to be at home, with your lover, in that calm atmosphere. And then in contrast, how it's not always that calm, in a relationship for example.
Question: Is there a particular message you hope listeners take from your music?
Isadore Leuven: Not really, we want every listener to create their own message, to interpret it as they feel it in that moment.
Question: Do you prefer performing live or recording?
Isadore Leuven: Performing live, because of the kick it gives and the magic you can create in that moment.
Question: Which is your favourite song to perform live and why?
Isadore Leuven: I guess that would actually be Snowflake, because of all the layers it contains.
Question: If you could have anyone, in the world, attend a show, who would it be?
Isadore Leuven: Tough question; Bon Iver or Daughter.
Question: What is the story behind the band name?
Isadore Leuven: It's a girl's name, from a poem written by Edgar Allen Poe, 'To Isadore'. We thought it sounded nice. Plus, we're female fronted, so it represents that as well, apart from only sounding nice.
Question: How did the band come together?
Isadore Leuven: We started out as an acoustic band, three girls together. And then the boys joined us, because we felt like there was something missing: a rythm section, a bass, to get our music to the next level, to create extra body, depth and atmosphere.
Question: What motivates you most when writing music?
Isadore Leuven: The spur and mindset of the moment, the need to create something new.
Question: Which music/artists are you currently listening to?
Isadore Leuven: Nina Nesbit, Lianne La Havas and Lewis Capaldi.
Question: What or who was your inspiration to go into the music industry?
Isadore Leuven: Nobody in particular, more the urge to make music, the passion each one of us feels while doing so.
Question: If you could collaborate with another artist, who would it be?
Isadore Leuven: Bon Iver or Daughter.
Question: What's next, for you?
Isadore Leuven: Surviving the corona-crisis I guess (laughs) and getting our music out there. Hopefully soon playing some shows, when this is all over!
