Jai Waetford Interview

Jai Waetford is set to release his debut self-titled EP on December 6th through Sony Music Entertainment Australia.

A finalist from the hugely successful TV show The X-Factor Australia, Jai placed in the top three of the fifth series; no mean feat considering the calibre of talent surrounding him. He has just had part one of his life dream realised with his debut single -Your Eyes' released and firing up the ARIA singles chart. Even more remarkable are the heartfelt lyrics, which are sung as if penned by this young teen himself, despite his admission he is 'only 14, so not much has happened yet."

Jai's EP will include his hit single -Your Eyes' and re-recorded full length studio tracks of some of his incredible performances on The X Factor including his Top 5 iTunes track -Don't Let Me Go,' as well as -Fix You' and -Plans,' and a special a carol addition just in time for Christmas, -When A Child Is Born'.

Interview with Jai Waetford

Question: How are you feeling at the moment Jai?

Jai Waetford: Amazing! I am loving life, it is amazing. It's a dream come true to be on the road, on tour, with my best mates. I'm having so much fun whilst touring Australia – it doesn't get any better than that!


Question: How is the X-Factor tour going?

Jai Waetford: It is going great, it has been amazing. We've performed in Newcastle, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Brisbane and the Gold Coast, so far. All of the crowds have been amazing as they have really got into the music. I am currently getting ready for tonight's show.


Question: How would you describe your debut self-titled EP?

Jai Waetford: My EP is being released on the 6th of December which is really exciting. The EP features a few songs that I sung on the X-Factor shows.


Question: What songs from X-Factor will feature on the EP?

Jai Waetford: Can't say… you have to buy it! But there are heaps of great songs on the EP including Your Eyes!


Question: How difficult was it to quickly churn out songs/performances each week whilst being on X Factor?

Jai Waetford: Surprisingly it wasn't that difficult for me because I committed to it because I love performing. There was nothing too hard because I wanted to do it, I love to learn new songs and perform for TV.


Question: What was the one thing Ronan Keating taught you that will never forget?

Jai Waetford: 'A good nights sleep can fix anything!"


Question: Is there a song or artist you now think back and wish you'd performed when on X-Factor?

Jai Waetford: Not really… There are so many different artists that I love performing.


Question: What is your main inspiration when writing your own songs?

Jai Waetford: Life. I don't only use my life as an inspiration but other people's life which I've heard or seen. I also write about things I may hear about.

Question: What music/artists do you listen to when you are not playing your own?

Jai Waetford: Heaps! I listen to heaps of different artists and genres; it's difficult for an artist to answer that question because of the amount of artists that we do listen to. I listen to everything, all music.


Question: Do you prefer performing live or recording?

Jai Waetford: Performing live because it's real (laughs).


Question: What/who was your inspiration to go into the music industry?

Jai Waetford: Me, it's always something that I've wanted to do because I have a love of music.


Question: Can you tell us who taught you to play the guitar?

Jai Waetford: I taught myself, using the internet.


Question: What has been your favourite part of becoming a music artist?
Jai Waetford: I enjoy being able to perform that has been my favourite part of becoming a music artist.


Question: If you could collaborate with another artist, who would it be?

Jai Waetford: I don't know, it's difficult because there are so many different artists that I would like to tour with. I'm new to the music industry…
