Seven Ways to Wish

According to legend, wishes come true during Japan's Tanabata (Star) festival when the two stars Orihime and Hikoboshi meet on the seventh day of the seventh month. People celebrate by writing wishes on seven types of decorations and hanging them on bamboo branches. Add your wish to our display and hope it comes true!

Taiko Japanese Drumming Workshop
Thursday 4 and Thursday 11 July
11am and 2pm
45 minutes
Adult $13.50, Child $10, Conc $8, MV Members receive discount. Includes entry to museum.
Join Toshi Sakamoto from Wadaiko Rindo, a Melbourne-based Japanese drum ensemble, for a dynamic taiko drumming demonstration and workshop. Toshi has been teaching in Melbourne for nearly 20 years and has performed internationally. Recommended for ages 7 – 12.

In-Flight Construct a miniature aeroplane from a huge selection of recycled materials and contribute to an ever-expanding installation created by international artists Alfredo and Isabel Aquilizan. The planes will pile up, take off and soar over the second floor of the Immigration Museum, referencing a transitional place of leave-taking and homecoming.
