Jordan Millar Cold Lights On A Modern Life

Acoustic poets Jordan Millar and Jack Carty will be on the road in March, April and May 2013 for the 'Cold Lights On A Modern Life" national tour, stretching from Noosa Heads to Hobart, Adelaide to Byron Bay. These two critically acclaimed singer songwriters will journey all over Australia to share their storytelling with tales of love and loss, and memories of places they'd often prefer to be.

Jordan Millar arouses distinct imaginings and memories with an intimate blend of charming pop and bluesy acoustic riffs. His music expresses his light-hearted, candid nature whilst evoking a nostalgic journey for the listener.

Already with a tightly packed career, Jordan has also managed to release six EPs and one full-length album, performed over 1000 shows. He's performed at some of Australia's biggest festivals including Byron Bay Blues Festival and Falls Festival, and toured with the likes of Xavier Rudd, Lisa Mitchell and The Fray. Jordan's second album 'Cold Lights On Curious Minds" is the long awaited follow up album from Sydney's acoustic pop troubadour.

After Jack Carty's three releases, national and international tours, festival dates, supports for the likes of Matt Corby, Joshua Radin, Brett Dennen & Ingrid Michaelson, a MusicOZ Award, TV Syncs and appearances at Canadian Music Week and SXSW later, he is still watching, still thinking, still travelling and still creating…

With the critically acclaimed -Break Your Own Heart' being dubbed his most ambitious, eloquent, moving and accomplished release to date, reaching #8 on the iTunes Australia Singer-Songwriter Chart and #15 on the Australian Independent Records chart, we can only wait and see to what further heights his upcoming 'Modern Life" EP will take him.

This tour will embody the true nature of music in both artists' song writing. It is pop. It is acoustic. It is blues and roots, and Jordan and Jack want to share all of it with you in an experience rich with familiarity and cheek.

This will without a doubt be one of the last chances to catch these two independent songwriters in such intimate settings.

Interview with Jordan Millar

Question: What are you most looking forward to with the upcoming tour?

Jordan Millar: Getting back out on the road and seeing all my epic fans and friends that I've made in all the corners of OZ. Plus, spending way too many hours in a car with my buddy Jack. Shenanigans await

Question: How would you describe Cold Lights On A Modern Life?

Jordan Millar: It's a real snapshot of the musician and person that I am today. It's by far my most honest record and I'm pretty sure all the songs deal with all those quarter life crisis questions in one way or another.

Question: What inspired you to tour with Jack Carty?

Jordan Millar: We've done it before and we had way too much fun... so why not do it again we said. And Boom. Tour sorted

Question: Do you write your own songs? What's your inspiration?

Jordan Millar: I write all my own songs, but the second part of your question is almost impossible to answer unfortunately. It comes on at the most random times, from the most random of thoughts. If I had to try and think of what my inspiration is it'd be something to do with travel and the big questions. I love delving into my own brain and figuring out how I feel about life and love and all that stuff.

Question: What music/artists do you listen to when you are not playing your own?

Jordan Millar: I'm very heavy into Alt J, Local Natives, Ben Howard, Mutemath, Jamie Lidell. Basically anything that doesn't sound like me...Don't know why that is.

Question: What's next? Tour/Album/Single?

Jordan Millar: We've got a new single dropping very soon, and then It'll be some overseas touring, plus the big one with Jack from March - May all through Australia.

Question: Was there a moment you contemplated throwing in the towel?

Jordan Millar: Never. I have a great time all the time. If I ever wasn't... I wouldn't do it. That has to be the meaning of life. Do whatever you can to be happy all the time.

Question: Do you prefer performing live or recording?

Jordan Millar: Massive fan of both. I get a lot of joy out of recording other people in the studio too and I get to do a lot of producing these days, but there's nothing that really compares to having a room full of people getting into something you've put a million and one hours into.

Question: What/who was your inspiration to go into the music industry?

Jordan Millar: I'm not really a fan of the music industry. I just like music. The industry is the by product that you're forced to deal with if you want to play music and try and live off it.

Question: What is the biggest challenge you have faced along the way to your musical success?

Jordan Millar: Just being able to maintain focus and momentum, and realising that the light at the end of the tunnel that never really ever gets any brighter. It doesn't matter what happens you always want more. I think life is like that.

Question: What's a typical day like?

Jordan Millar: Coffee. Some form of exercise. Internet. Meetings or writing or recording or rehearsing in some capacity. Eating some delicious food. Internet. Play a gig. There's not really a standard day, but most weeks have a bit of this in it.

Question: What has been your favourite part of becoming a music artist?

Jordan Millar: I get to play music every day and I don't have to do anything else if I don't want to

Question: If you could collaborate with another artist, who would it be?

Jordan Millar: Jamie Lidell or Mutemath. They both have the craziest sonic landscapes in their production and I think it'd be fascinating to see what we'd come up with.

Question: Do you have a website fans can visit?

Jordan Millar: www.jordanmillarmusic.com

Question: Can you tell us 5 things required for a happy healthy & enjoyable life?

Jordan Millar: Good friends
Time to yourself
Good food and wine
Appreciating the little things
Love
Travel.
That's 6, but still.
