J.P Over Interview

Sydney MC J.P Releases An Empowering New Single 'Over'

Emerging South West Sydney rapper J.P releases an empowering new single 'Over' featuring Monique Simone, a single which tackles overcoming heart-break. J.P's lyricism can be described as combining slick metaphors with a personal backstory. 'Over' is no exception, it's a single that was influenced from ups and downs with someone J.P thought he could have had a future with. It's a mixture of the feeling you get of putting in effort and getting mixed messages back.

Along the way J.P came to a point of understanding if you have to try too hard for a relationship and if it doesn't come naturally from both ends then its time to move on.

On the single, J.P said, "It's about that motivated feeling that you're fresh and ready to focus on you,"

"I just want people to feel empowered that if you're going through a hard time in anything, whether its relationships or any type of loss, there is light at the end of the tunnel. Focus on what you can control and time will take care of the rest,"

Experimenting with styles, sounds and delivery, J.P's flow is undeniably versatile. He's influenced by the likes of T.I., Drake, Jay-z and Kanye West. He mixes intelligent lyricism with melody to engage in versatility to his core fan base, and the evolving sounds of hip hop music. Part of the fresh new wave of hip hop, J.P will be releasing his EP titled 'Over' slated for release next year.

Interview with J.P

Question: How would you describe your music?

J.P: Diverse, personal and relatable.

Question: Which is your favourite song to perform live and why?

J.P: Let It Rain; this is a track off my mixtape 'No Satisfaction', it's just a feel good track that can engage the crowd and make them feel part of the song.

Question: If you could have anyone, in the world, attend a show, who would it be?

J.P: Jay-Z, got to have one of the GOAT's present while they're still alive.

Question: Do you prefer performing live or recording?

J.P: That's a hard one. I would have to go with recording; just the whole process of putting into vocals what you've written and hearing the final product.

Question: What motivates you most when writing music?

J.P: The whole creative process, but generally challenging myself to always come up with intelligent lyrics.

Question: Which music/artists are you currently listening to?

J.P: Right now, I actually just heard B Wise's Area Famous album. I know I'm a little late on it he dropped it last year but it's a dope project. Positive vibe to it and I'm from South West Sydney too so I can relate! Always listen to whatever Drake drops; big influence on my music.

Question: What or who was your inspiration to go into the music industry?

J.P: Honestly myself, just the passion I have for music and then realising that the more I practice the better I have become, and I can really do this!

Question: Did you have any pre-conceived ideas about the music industry?

J.P: I guess where the profit is from it, over time knowing that it's more from touring and sponsorship.

Question: If you could collaborate with another artist, who would it be?

J.P: International wise I'd love to do a track with Teyana Taylor on the chorus. Locally here in Sydney, Manu Crooks. I like his progression from when I first heard him about five years ago.

Question: What's a typical day like?

J.P: Honestly, right now I work fulltime and do my music around that. So I'm still working to day to day as a District Manager in Retail. I don't go to the studio every week. I tend to build up my catalog writing songs at home. I'll record rough demos at home even just on my phone. Work out track order and then book the studio and record in lump sessions to get the final product.

Question: What has been your favourite part of becoming a music artist?

J.P: Hearing the final product to what I've put to paper, and then hearing the positive response from the people.

Question: Can you tell us 5 things required for a happy healthy and enjoyable life?

J.P: Family, downtime, balanced diet, following your passion, and new experiences.

Question: Can you share your socials?

J.P: @j_paine88
