Interview with Kate Peck

Question: How does it feel to be Monster High's first Australian Youth Ambassador?

Kate Peck: I'm really excited to take on the role of Monster High's first Australian Youth Ambassador and encourage girls to love their quirks and imperfections as much as I love mine. The new musical, Monster High™: Boo York, Boo York, and range of dolls encourage girls to come together in friendship and celebrate what makes each of us unique this Halloween – which is exactly what I'll be doing!

Question: Why did you decide to take on the role of the Monster High Australian Youth Ambassador?

Kate Peck: Monster High encourages girls to express their individuality, embrace their differences and form friendships that last. As someone who has always celebrated what makes me different and quirky, I was really excited to be asked to take on the role of Monster High's first ever Australian Youth Ambassador– to encourage girls to unite and be proud of what makes each of us special.

Question: Why do people describe you as quirky?

Kate Peck: Maybe because I've always celebrated the things about me that make me a one-off and people don't necessarily expect when they first set eyes on me. I can hyper-extend quite a few joints, dislocate a shoulder or knee cap voluntarily and have feet lots of people think are ugly but I love (they're pretty handy as I can pick up most thing I require in life with my long toes)! I'm also a bit of a petrol head and ride a motorbike bigger than most small cars, which always surprises people.

Question: How did you learn to embrace your personal self and express your individuality?

Kate Peck: I think when you go through high school and then leave to explore the world, you realise we are all individuals. Through school, you try and conform and -fit in' but once you are in the real world, you realise how unique everyone is and the only way to differentiate yourself from others is to celebrate this individuality.

Question: What advice do you have for Australian girls regarding expressing their individuality and embracing their differences?

Kate Peck: Have a good long think about what your passion is in life, what you are proud of and what you do differently to anyone else. When you have worked this out, then you can set about embracing these things and allowing them to help influence your path in life. Never supress your passion and what makes you an individual, it will always come out in one way or another so you might as well be proud and embrace it!

Question: What are your plans this Halloween?

Kate Peck: I'll be getting together with my best girl friends to celebrate what it means to be unique by hosting the ultimate Halloween party. We'll be expressing our individuality and having a bit of fun with a terrifying fancy dress, raising our voices LOUD with a Monster High™: Boo York Boo York karaoke session and dishing up a horrifying meal of colourful drinks and snacks. My favourites are red blood orange juice, gruesome monster eyeballs on sticks (white grapes and cherry tomatoes on toothpicks), yellow witches fingers (breadsticks and dips) and goblin's teeth (little cubes of yellow cheese, e.g. cheddar).

Question: What will you be dressing up as, this Halloween?

Kate Peck: I'll be taking inspiration from Monster High's newest dolls, and the stars of Monster High™: Boo York Boo York, Luna Mothews, Mouscedes King, Elle Eedee and Astranova. They each have their own furrocious look, from goth-moth to total Upper Beast Side, so you can be sure that one of these ghouls will match your own awesome style!

Question: What songs are currently on your playlist?

Kate Peck: I'm obsessed with anything that comes from Kendrick Lamar and Foals. Old and new, it's all guuuud!

Question: What is your top pick-me-up trick?

Kate Peck: Personally I like to go for a motorcycle ride! BUT, many people don't have a motorcycle so I would go for some exercise or find a friend that makes you laugh.

Question: What's a typical day like for you?

Kate Peck: I usually start with early morning session at the gym, eat some breaky at home, grab a coffee on route to MTV HQ and jump into meetings. Then we usually shoot a couple of news bulletin or chart show pieces, or have musicians and film stars to interview in the MTV studio. Then I might change into an evening outfit and head to an event.
