Kids in the Park Spring 2013

Just as the spring season signifies the start of something new, Sydney Olympic Park's school holiday activities program, Kids in the Park, will debut HEAPS of NEW school holiday entertainment for all ages and interests this spring.

With 14 NEW boredom-busters, almost 20 FREE activities and more than 10 good-value options at less than $20 per person, Kids in the Park spring 2013 will run EVERY DAY of the school holidays, from 21 September – 6 October.

At the Sydney Olympic Park Sports Halls, boys and girls aged 5-12 can Cheer and Dance during an exciting and energetic two-hour cheerleading class on 25 and 26 September as well as on 3 and 4 October for $29 per child, per class. A super fun lesson in fitness, teamwork and coordination, participants will learn a combination of skills relating to music, cheers, dance and tumbling before finishing the class on a high note with a group routine to set springtime spirits souring!

G.A.M.E.S – that is, Great Activities Maximising Enjoyment of Sport – will also debut at the Sports Halls this spring for kids aged 5-12 to try a variety of sports under the guidance of qualified instructors. Available every weekday of the school holidays for $35 per child per lesson from 9am-1pm, the activity will include many fun G.A.M.E.S based on a selection of sports such as football, netball, volleyball, handball, badminton, table tennis and hockey.

The basics of self-defence and confidence-development will also be taught in a safe environment at the Sports Halls, where Martial Arts for Kids will debut on 23, 24, 30 September and 1 October from 1.30pm-3.30pm for $29 per child.

Kids can also practice a downward dog at the Sports Halls this spring, when a NEW Kids Yoga class will operate on 27 September and on 4 October for $29 per child. With parent-participation welcome at no extra charge, the two-hour holistic and relaxing class will encourage creativity as well as coordination, concentration and balance.

For 90 minutes of hyper-activated good-value entertainment, Back from the Future – Activity Games at Newington Armory will see kids aged 7-12 launch rocket balloons and water rockets, throw air vortexes, thump water drums, catapult slimy projectiles, play glow-stick hockey, do lion dance drumming and join the DrumzBuzz marching band! With lots of energy but no batteries required, the futuristic fun activity will be held twice-daily on 21, 22, 28 and 29 September for $15.

Across Sydney Olympic Park at the Aquatic Centre, NEW Laser Tag for ages five and older will also present good-value fun for just $8 per child for two-hours of high-tech -hide and seek' using infrared phasers, inflatable walls and bunkers. The team-combat outdoor activity will operate on 25 and 26 September as well as on 3 and 4 October.

Nearby at the Sports Centre, the just-for-kids concert, Nickelodeon SLIMEFEST is sure to be bigger, messier and more slime-filled than ever before with featured performances by Big Time Rush and Guy Sebastian on Friday 27 September.

Kids on Canvas – Drawing In Springtime is guaranteed to please budding artists aged seven and older on 26 September and 3 October at Wentworth Common. Participants will learn the basics of drawing with a focus on line and shape whilst refining their hand and eye coordination and observation skills. At a cost of $35-$40 per child, kids will do warm-up sketches before taking inspiration from the Park's oversized animal sculptures to create their own masterpiece.

Clowning Around with Circus Solarus on every weekday of the holidays is also NEW and FREE for ages 4-12 at Fig Grove, where kids will get to participate in a circus show, make a circus hat and even create their own circus character!

Perfect for nature-lovers, 25 Twitch by the Lake at Bicentennial Park will uncover the next generation of bird twitchers for FREE on 27 September, and three NEW Fizzics Education science workshops will also launch at Bicentennial Park.

Finally, the Lodge Survivor Holiday Camp during the final week of the school holidays will include everything from sports to cooking and in true survivor style, even an overnight camp-out! The ideal alternative to day-care, the Residential Camp for ages 8-12 years will run for five days and four nights at a cost of $390 per child, and a Day Camp for ages 5-12 will also operate from 8am-6pm for $65 daily, inclusive of all meals and with Childcare Rebate Receipts available on request.

With the line-up of 14 NEW activities adding to familiar favourites such as FREE Sports Star and Sing Star, FREE Clue Trails, good-value AFL Clinics for $5 per child and special NRL Grand Final Fun Day activities, it's no wonder Kids in the Park makes Sydney Olympic Park the official home of the BIGGEST school holiday program in NSW!
