Lili Kendall Lifetime Interview

Lili Kendall Lifetime Interview

Sassy LA-based Australian force

Sassy LA-based Australian force, Lili Kendall has announced her sultry new single Lifetime, a cosmic love song to a young partner.

Lifetime is bound to catch listeners off-guard - it's a surprisingly mature love song from this young artist, who has already reinvented herself several times throughout her short career. But Lili is fully formed on Lifetime; relaxed and in control, her unmistakable voice glides above world-class production from her collaborator Deaneaux. Lifetime is the most appropriate name for this slow-burning track – RnB and hiphop influences are sprinkled throughout, but there's a cosmic force underlying that somehow places this song on the edge of this universe and the next.

Speaking about the track, Lili enthuses, "I wrote Lifetime when I first moved to LA in June. It's about the chase that you and the other person are on at the start of a relationship. The back and forth, and lust, the want of each other. It's also about being ride or die for that one person because you know that you have been lovers in previous lifetimes, and it is something worth fighting for."

Lili has settled into the creative LA lifestyle without a hitch, and is currently putting the finishing touches on her new EP. "My EP is finished and we're in the final stages of mixing and mastering, as well as making some amazing visuals for each song," she says. 'I am home in Australia for the holidays and will be heading to Sydney and Melbourne for work, I'm so excited to be back on home soil and get into the studio with some local creatives."

Interview with Lili Kendall

Question: What do you miss about Australia?

Lili Kendall: My family and dogs. But also how beautiful it is – the nature, especially our beaches. Nowhere else compares. I miss waking up and hearing birds in the morning as well.

Question: Are you able to describe your music in five words?

Lili Kendall: One perspective made into art.

Question: How you would describe Lifetime?

Lili Kendall: A cinematic love story.

Question: Can you talk about your inspirations behind Lifetime?

Lili Kendall: It was produced by my good friend Dean (Deaneaux) Beresford, I wrote it when I first moved to LA in June. The song is about the chase that you and someone are on at the start of a relationship. The back and forth, and lust/want of each other. It's also about being ride or die for that one person because you know that you have been lovers in previous lifetimes, and it is something worth fighting for.

Question: Which is your favourite song to perform live and why?

Lili Kendall: I haven't been able to play any of my new music live yet, I'm still in the studio creating. So I can't answer that yet but I'm excited to experiment with them on stage.

Question: If you could have anyone in the world attend your show, who would it be?

Lili Kendall: My parents at my future Madison Square Garden headliner.

Question: Do you prefer performing live or recording?

Lili Kendall: Two different experiences. I love them both. The studio, creating and recording, is like therapy to me, but performing live you get to take in everyone's reaction to the music in the room.

Question: Which music/artists are you currently listening to?

Lili Kendall: Currently I'm super inspired by Jesse Reyez, SZA, Sabrina Claudio, EARTHGANGA, Miguel, Nick Hackim and Raury.

Question: What or who was your inspiration to go into the music industry?

Lili Kendall: I've always loved music and have a lot of musical influences. Forever and always influenced by Amy Winehouse, Solange, Ms Lauryn Hill, Gwen Stefani, Pharrell, Billie Holiday, Nat King Cole, Etta James and Frank Ocean.

Question: If you could collaborate with another artist, who would it be?

Lili Kendall: Pharrell is my #1 dream collaboration.
